Default Rear Diff.

Ok so I took my truck into the dealership for the 18k service today (Mobil 1 oil change, tires rotated, rear diff. fluid changed).....

I must be retarded because I had them change the fluid in the rear diff. and just changing the rear diff. fluid alone cost $160.

Is this a normal price?....Do our truck's differentials get filled with gold flaked synthetic????

***Rant Over***

Wait you took your car to the dealership and youre asking if your wallet got gang raped, isn't that implied. Next time do it yourself. You've got a Chrysler 9.25, just find out if you have limited slip, there's an additive youll need.
Start to finish it takes less than 1hr to do.
Quick question what's an 18 000 mile service?
how often do you change you oil.

amsoil 90 140 severe gear, bout 17 bucks a quart. Even has some of the LSD additive. Its a 100 000 mile oil, I'd still change it 15-30k miles, nice to check if there's any marring or chipping. that's what the magnet is for.

Ouch!! Man, you could've done all that yourself for half the cost of the fluids. Or paid someone the fluid cost and had it all done. Sorry, but I just don't understand taking regular maintenance to the dealer.

AAM axels dont need friction modifier if you have a limited slip axel.

get a gallon of 75-90 in your favorate flavor and your set. 75-110 if you tow on occasion, 75-140 if you tow often

BTW, no RTV needed, the AAM's use a reusable rubber gasket to seal the pumpkin

By 18k service, I mean that I needed the oil changed and the tires rotated (oil changed every 3k). Also, the dealer recommends that you change your rear diff. fluid at 15k and every 30k after that. I didnt have it done at 15k, so I am having it done now. Its not a magic number.....just scheduled maintenance.

vandersnoot should have the chrylser 9.25 though. its a 1/2 ton truck.

yeah gaskets are the way to go, you can get them for the 9.25's as well, much easier than the rtv.

It is hard to do basic maintenance since I live in an apt. I dont have a garage to keep tools and my complex is big on not doing any repairs/work on your vehicle. I know I could do it at a friends house, or on post, but it is just easier to pay to have it done for now.

i hear you on the apt thing, when i lived in apts i had a car so oil change was only 30 bucks with synth.

but man you could have saved yourself 80-110 bucks on just the rear diff alone.

now i got a big ol 2 car garage that my truck doesnt fit in so i gots lots of room for crap.
