DIY bed liner
Has anyone done the DIY bedliner themselves? If you dont know what im talking about its the kit you get in a box and its like a spray on bedliner but you basically paint it on yourself. I just didnt know if anyone has tried it and seen if it was easy or not.
A friend of mine done the herculiner, and it looked as good as rino or line-x, but he really spent alot of time on the prep work. I have been told that the prep work is where the trick is in making it a good or bad bedliner.
You have to clean the bed, sand the whole surface, wipe with acetone, then apply at least two coats. I don't know how strong it is but it is much cheaper than a sprayed on liner. I beleive you can get the Herculiner kit for under $100.
I used the Duplicolor roll on bed liner and it took awhile to do but looked good for a little while and then it started to chip and come up. But I think if you put 3-4 coats on it will hold up better.
The friend of mine has had it about 5 years, and he is hard on it, and it looks just as good as it did the day he do it. I know you have got to clean the bed really well and sand all the paint before you put the bedliner on. Just got off the phone with him and he said it took him about 3 hours to get the bed ready, about 1 hour to roll the liner on. Then the next day he put a second coat on, and did not use the bed for another 4 days. He also said to do this in the hot part of summer.

I just got a quote on the over the edge Rhino for $479 complete. I had the Linex in my old truck, was definately tougher but was scratched up as well.... The Linex stuff slides around and the Rhino is more rubberier
Could try a tonneau cover to stop rain from getting in so it wont rust. And if done right like Peddler says it probably could last, but when I did it I was in a hurry and didnt prep like his friend did.
