kinda like GM's DOD setup (displacment on demand)? It'd be cool if toyota had something like that on our 5.7 engines. I dont care what they advertise, seems like our mpg isn't any better than any other full size truck. I had an 01 tundra previous to this one with the 4.7 iforce and it got even worse gas mileage, like 11-13mpg, go figure.

yes, exactly like DOD. i like the older tundras. those are nice. my sis wants a truck and i keep telling her get either a ram or an older tundra. lol. cant believe that 01 had bad mpg like that. my friend has the 4.7L 2006/7 tundra (whichever year it is), his mpg is 10.3 at the moment. he does have a heavy foot, but even in my hemi i couldnt get under 11mpg with a heavy foot. very wierd. i too thought that toyotas had real good mpg. guess not.

EDIT: he has the new style tundra. i was assuming it was 2006-ish, but i guess it started in 2007.

yeah 00-04 had the plain 4.7 V8, terrible gas mileae. The 05-08 4.7 V8 has the VVT-I which gave it more Hp and better Mpg. These new ones with the 5.7 have dual VVT-I which doesnt do crap for gas mileage, but hit the throttle and you'll snap your neck. lol. Seems like all the motors 4.0 V6 4.7 V8 and 5.7 V8 all get the same MPGs.

So were you thinking of just getting rid of it, or replacing it with a gas-sipper?

If you are replacing it, what mpg does the replacement vehicle get, and how many miles/yr will you be driving it? Need to know all that and maybe more if you want to make the decision based on $$$.... Gimme the parameters and I can try to help with an analysis...

If you're just getting rid of the truck outright to save $$$ (and no other reasons come into play, i.e. utility, convenience, chick magnet, etc) and will not be replacing it, the answer seems easy to me. Get rid of the truck and just drive the other vehicles.

I think its more of a "lifestyle" issue if you should sell your truck or not. Most of us here has lifestyle that includes owning a pickup truck.

But i am only 17 years old and i drive my ram to school everyday and to part time job and my parents is very concerned about gas prices rising however they said that if the price is too high that they couldnt afford it then they will sell my truck to get a better car such as sedan with very good fuel efficient gas. What should i do? Is there any ways to save gas on ram?

i
ORIGINAL: mean4x4machine

ORIGINAL: 04 HEMI 04
My truck has 58,000 miles and averaged about 14 mpg in city and 24 mpg on highway traveling 55 mph only (i never went higher than 55 mph because if i did that then my truck will eat gas so fast and however i did 55 mph and oh my god it is the best on gas.)
Im a newbie here and just purchased an 04 ram reg cab 4x4 hemi (which I have to say is the absolute most fun truck to drive, I am 20 and have had an 03 Z71 and 2 04 Fords and this by far takes the cake!), and I just have one question. You honestly get 24 mpg goin 55 mph? If your serious please tell me because that is exactly how fast Ill be driving from now on. Thank You.
i got 24 mpg @ 55 mph on highway and who cares about ppl speeding. ppl just wasting more gas by driving more faster. my truck is 2004 with 4 dr full size truck. if u have 5 spds auto then top gear rev@55mph is 1,500 rpm on flat roads but it depends on the surfaces. i usually draft behind big semi all the way cuz no air pushing against my truck.

well, i completely understand you wanna keep the truck. on the other hand, if gas is getting to be a burden, you might have to part. if it comes to it, we might part from ours too even though we wanna keep it. gas is costing us almost as much as our payment is. thats sad!!! so in other words, we can have 2 new gas saving cars for the same price as paying for our truck with gas included. luckily when ever we do drive, we use our honda because we dont go anywhere simultaneously. not much driving done here. only on the weekends and that just straight freeway miles. this is the first time i had 1 fill up for 2 weeks on the truck. had the whole tank for 2 weeks. i put in $20 (~6.5 gallons) 3 days ago and still have more than half of that $20 left. so weve cut our driving a lot. it would also help if yu just drive your car instead of the truck. the car seems badass too. why worry about the kool factor anymore with 2 badass rides?
