Default Couple of Newb Questions

Hey Guys! Awesome forum. I purchased my 04 Quad Cab 5.7L 2 weeks ago and have been monitoring this board since. 2 Simple questions as the others have been answer by those stickied topics for newbs.

my truck does not have fog lights, but has the places for them in the bumper. Just wondering what the best fog lights are to get that just drop right into that hole. Links would be great. Also i wanted some brighter lights and was thinking of goin projectors or HID's. Whats the difference? Also im no mechanic and the easier to install the better. Just looking for fog lights that will drop right in, and just wanted to know what goes along with installing them. Any help is awesome, and this forum Rocks!

ps. Ill get pics of the truck when i can as ive seen them requested from new members before.

I think you can get OEM fogs off e-bay fairly cheap. You might want to look to see if the harness is already there.

I just did this last week. Picked up some lights, headlight/foglight/dome/cargo switch and bumper bezels from a junk yard ($50) then bought the cable from the dealer ($50). My 2004 is an SLT so it's already pre-wired for fog lights (look for connector behind bumper and beside driver side fog light). Ijustreplaced the headlight switch in the dash, screwed in the new fog lights and connected them with the cable - BAM!

You can pick up a whole kit on ebay or do a search.

Similar to the headlight connectors -- a twist-in connector. What BPV said about the switch applies, too. If your isn't a SLT, you may have to visit a junk yard for the harness. I tried the one near me, and there were NO Gen 2 or Gen 3 Rams! Guess that's a good thing.

I put mopar fog lights in a few weeks ago also...like mike said make sure it's pre-wired and you're all set. The factory setup comes with 2 fog lights, 2 plastic inserts, the wiring harness going to both lights and the connector, and the new light switch.

I had to bring mine to the dealer yesturday to have them enable the lights with their startscan tool...they did it for free though.

they pretty much told you about your fogs. the oem arent too expensive on ebay. the plug should be where they mentioned and is pretty easy to install, and you may have to get them activated by your dealer. make sure you get it set for "export" which is what its called..this means the fogs work when your high beams are on, or else when you hit your high beams, your fogs will turn off.

for your headlights....the projectors are not necesarilly brighter...maybe a little bit. if your looking for lighting brightness go with the HID's. i have the projectors...love em' but wish they were brighter. tried 3 different bulbs and have come to settle with the SILVERSTARS, but i hear the PIAA's are better. but for true brightness, HID is the way to go. ill get some pics up next weekend of my truck after i put in my leveling kit. you'll see the projectors in my truck, or try PM'ing Ramit. i think he has some pics of my headlights.

PM me for more info on the projectors theres a lot more detail on them

Sure, make me go out in the cold in the middle of the night and take pictures!

I added some labels to the picture so you can identify everything. It should be really obvious. I remember looking under for the first time and seeing it and saying "Sweet!!" If you didn't notice it then you don't have it

Hey guys really appreciate all the help. This forum really is awesome. I may just try the bulbs, from what ive read HID's may be out of my league for install and they are a little $$. I have an SLT so hopefully the wires exist. how hard is it to change the light switch? im assuming you need the one that pulls out right? If the dash needs to be removed or something like that, than forget it lol. Thanks again guys, maybe some day i wont be a newb and i can contribute to this forum. Untill then, Prepare for the questions!

Damnit, guess I don't have it because my truck is the base model ST..ya know (manual windows, locks, etc)...! This sucks because it was going to be my next mod, I just don't feel like shelling out the extra and doing the extra work for it. Oh well
