Opinion on tires
Alright guys I just bought an 05 QCSB Ram 1500 4x4 and am planning on lifting it in a little bit. I am looking into a rough country 5in suspension system that can fit 37x12.5x17 rims. I have the 17x8 rims on my ram right now and don't plan on changing them. I am between two tires though. I am between going with BFG AT's or the BFG KM2's. I have heard that the AT's are a great tire, but I have heard that the KM2's are more than a 50000 mile tire and really quite for a MT. My other option is going with a 6in rough country suspension system that I found for 1100 dollars. I would get a 17x9 rim with 4.5in backspacing and put 37x13.5x17 toyo MT's on it. I would perfer the second, but I figured I would see what you guys/gals had to say about it.
Any 1500 cannot handle a 37" tire becuase of the weak independent suspension, get the BFG AT's. I had them on a suburban, the older style AT's and they last a long time. There also not too expensive like other tires, i think there $235 a piece were others are around $300 for mud terrians. Like I said do NOT put 37's on a 1500 especially a hemi gas engine. You'll see you gas gauge moving. Also a bigger tire means bigger brakes. I saw a xtreme 4x4 where they put 38's on a hemi 2500 the thing couldn't stop and you know how on shows they always burnout when there done... Not on this truck. They actually showed a big rig pulling away from it.
Go with 35's dude. You cant go wrong with 35's. I just got the Pro Comp Xtreme A/T's, and so far so good. They are a crossover between a Mud Terrain and an All Terrain. for an All Terrain, they have some pretty aggressive tread. Where are you located, I might be able to get you a deal on tires. I just got 4 brand new 35 X A/T for 840 bucks. Mounted, balanced and tax was $911.25. You cant get that anywhere else.
Couldn't agree more with KX250, seen too many guys with bigger tires on IFS trucks have major problems. I used to say that 37s were OK for pavement queens, as I thought it was the rough play that was destroying front ends. But I recently heard from a hunting buddy who ignored my advice have a vacation ruined because his front end literally blew up 800 miles from home on vacation. Basically spent most of the vacation w/o truck and still 300 miles from his destination. Dealer where he had it towed blamed the failure on the fact that the IFS front end on his GMC 1500 couldn't handle the 38" Interco's he had installed about 3500 miles ago. The nine or ten straight hours at Interstate speeds were too much! This truck had yet to be off-road since the tires were added other than low speed errands around his parents farm.
So, I'd say do enough lift to get 35's on and no more, if you want to go bigger, trade your truck in on a 3/4 ton with a solid front axle...

Alright guys you all make a great point. I didn't even think of the IFS. I am probably going to go with the 35x12.5x17 Toyo MT's on stock rims to save some cash. I will go withat least a 2inleveling kit to fit those. Doing it this way I can get 4.56 gears and an LSD too. It will be an overall better deal and keep the ride pretty stock feeling. It will be better for gas milage cuz it will weigh alot less to.
Toyo M/T's are a great choice. Along with Mickey Thompson/Dick Cepek's they are my favorite brand of tire. Never been a big fan of BFG's, but maybe it's just because I've always been in huntin' & fishin' & ATV clubs and just have seen too many people with them (I hate being "one of the crowd"). The Pro Comp Xtreme's look really nice, but EVERY guy I know who has had Pro Comp's has complained about how fast they wear out on the pavement, same with the Nitto Mud Grapplers, another awsome looking tread and great performer, as long as you are willing to get a new set every season.
Well I have been told that the toyo mt's are an extemely quite mt and last well into the 50k's. They also have an extremely aggressive thread. I think the BSL sidewalls look better on a red ram anyways too.

Alright, it's been asked a million times and I've searched threads but I have to ask: 03 2500 hemi QC 4x4, can I put 35/12.5/17's on stock rims? I'm putting the 2' readylift kit in, dealer says tires will fit on wheels and on truck w/o rubbing. Can somebody give an opinion? ( I know that's a loaded question)
If you REALLY need 35' or bigger I would save your money & buy a 3/4 ton or more w/solid front axel. I would stick with 33" on a 1/2 ton-otherwise your setting yourself up for failure. I would like to go up from 33" to 35" on our 08' PowerWagon but am going to wait and put the DynaTrac manual front hub conversion with Heavier outer axel shafts on when we can afford it. You can't believe how fast things accelerate in wear when a lift and bigger tires are added.
