Default T tech vs traditional trannission fluid change

anyone have any experience with the t tech, they say you dont even have to replace the filters.
I think its just a way for mechs to reduce their workload but still charge the same price.

Anyways how does it compare to changing the fluid and filters the old fasion way.

I had a T-Tech flush done at about 70,000 miles
where I brought in official Mopar +3 ATF
after the manager told me on the telephone he did not have it
in his bulk tanks.

I had no problems after the T-Tech
but the forums have quite a few posts from people
who claimed they had problems afterwards.

Keep in mind that many people get transmission service
only after they 'feel' problems in shifting.

Penske Auto Centers used to have a different flush machine
where they dropped the pan and did the flush
at the filter flange mounting point.
You can make a strong argument that way has advantages
over the T-Tech method of inserting the machine
in the cooler line hoses.

At Bill Kondolay's Diesel Trans website forums in the archives
he tells you how to do what he calls an
8 quart ATF change on a 47/48 auto
by loosening the valve body bolts just a little
to let the torque converter drain its ATF.

The easiest and safest method
but slightly more wasteful of new ATF
is to suck the old ATF out with a pump down the dipstick hole,
refill with about 3.5 quarts of ATF,
then start the vehicle and put the trans in neutral for 10 minutes;
then repeat with another 3.5 quarts of ATF,
then do a final third 3.5 quarts of ATF.
You end up changing out about 80% of the total ATF this way
at minimal risk.

The first tranny flush I had done was on my '88 Chevy -- they took down the pan, replaced the filter and gasket, cleaned the pan and replaced the fluid for $60. The next time was on my Gen 2 Ram and all they did was replace the fluid. No filter change -- didn't even touch the pan, and charged me $90. That was the last time I had it done. Now I do my own for $50 which includes fluid and filters. Plus, I know who did it.

Each method has it's own faults. the ttech method doesn't include a filter change, the drop the pan method doesnt get out all the old fluid.

You can do it how I would, change the filter and then do a ttech flush. Our machine at the shoptakes a full 16quarts to flush it all including the torque converter so i gets quite pricey but you definatly see the difference afterwards.

HemiMan -- Pardon my ignorance on this one, you said takes a full 16 quarts to flush it, are you meaning that you waste 16 quarts for the flush and then put in another 16 quarts. i seriously hope im reading this wrong.... if this is correct why cant you run 4 quarts to flush and just keep re using the same 4 quarts on the flush?
also if i drop the pan change the filters its still fine to drive it with the reduced tranny fluid to the shop right? meaning i dont have to fill it back up as the pan doesnt hold it all....

Mike -- how much of an issue is it changing the filters, are they obvious when you drop the pan?

I plan on putting in amsoil (has a 100k mile service life) and my truck has 31k on it now so dont plan on having to do this again so if it does cost some money then thats fine.

This is what I did on our 04' hemi w/545RFE trans. A new oil pan was only 35$. I bought one took it to my uncle and he welded on a fine thread 5/8" nut on the outside after I drilled the hole. Then took the bolt and cut it and deburred it so it did NOT protrude into the trans pan at all (it will void the warrenty if it does). Then I could do my own trans oil changes. 6 1/2 qts each time 2x a year ( we tow a 30' camper and I drive it hard). Filters still need to be changed as noted in own. man.. This is a GREAT low buck mod that you will love everytime you do a 10 min trans oil change.
