I read a how-to on engine cleaning once upon a time, and it suggested covering certain part of the engine. What areas did you tape off?

I wash mine off once in while, never cover anything. New engines are usually safe. Just to do not sitthere and pour the water in by the gallons.

I do however try to keep the water away from the PCM.

me and father used to clean all the cars' engines every spring. usually we took out the breather/airbox, stuffed a rag in the tb, and blasted away. even did the same for the maxima...and this car is like a computer under there.

the whole "don't get certain parts wet" was always a joke in my eyes (that's what my dad told me) - i mean, look at all the dirt and mud and **** that sling in there anyways. i just washed everything under there while truck was running...took like 20 minutes in the alley and a long hose we purchsed long ago just for this (and engine flushes).

i soaked the engine is burnign hot water (didn't even have the pressure washer started). blasted about a 1/3 of this can on everything under there. put a bag on top of the cone of my cai (don't wrap it, cause you'll just suffocate engine if you leave it running like i did). i tried not to spray the degreaser stuff on things that it looks like i shouldn't (wiring harnesses, fuse box, etc)...but i was still pretty wreckless with it, just cause i knew i wasn't gonna let the stuff sit more than 30 seconds anyhow. anyways, i figured everything was covered, went and started pressure washer, and blasted away. i blasted evveryy where, and made it a point to get back have of engine that seems like it's under dashboard - and even thought i had a bag over liek 75% of my cone filter, i still avoided that corner of engine compartment as much as possible. i put the nozzle on the "fan" spray, that the "jet", cause i swear to god that jet of water can probably go right through the valve covers (lol). and yea, i just kept washing and washing and washing until my hot water tank wasn't hot anymore. then i put pressure washer away, rolled up big hose, and busted out the garden hose and continued to just keep spraying the engine compartment, until i was like, "eh, i think it's clean". motor brite'd all the plastic crap up top, used a rag + water to clean my cai intake pipes...and t'was done. left the truck on for another 20 minutes or so, parked in front, came in, and showered, cause i was absolutely disgusting.i didn't bother washing under truck, cause i didnt' wanna climb into a pool of degreaser/water, and i go to the hand wash every week and get the undercarraige blasted.
