Default Nitto Mud Grapplers on 20" ?

I'm considering changing the tires on my Ram for 33x12.50R20LT or 35x12.50R20LT Nitto Mud Grapplers. Does anyone have experience with these tires, and does anyone know if I'll run into problems on my truck running either the 33" or 35" versions? I'm figuring that my factory 3.92 gears should be OK for either of those sizes, but correct me if I'm mistaken there.

Also, does anyone else make a comparably aggressive treaded tire for 20" rims? Maybe something that would be preferable to the Nittos?

YOu will be ok with the 33's but with a 35 i would recommend 4.56 gears. IMHO

***Edit

I think TD has these tires on 17 wheels

ANd Romeosoldier03 has 36 IROK's on his stock 20's

And Redram05baby has Nitto Terra Grapplers

I know none of these are exactly what you are looking for, but these might help out.

You will be just fine running 33's or 35's with stock gears! I am running 37" Nitto Mud Grapplers on stock gears right now! If you go with the 35" you might want to consider 4:56 gears in the future, but not necessary if you don't go off road often. Toyo makes Mud tires in 20" but they cost an arm and a leg! I have been happy with the Nitto's for the price! They do have lots of road noise so if you don't want people to hear you coming from a few blocks away then pay the extra for the Toyo's.

ive been through hell trying to find what tires i wanted to get and i too wanted and even had a set of mud grapplers ordered for me but i decided not to have them put on.....i looked at mickey thompson atz's and dick cepek FC-II's and have seriously considered each....and i have finally decided to go with the pro comp xtreme A/T. they have nice deep tread a little noise, not too much(barely) and are great in the rain and have a 40,000 mile warranty...those never go through but whatever....ive talked to a few people and all have said that will be their next tire after they need to replace theirs. sharx ram on the cummins forum has 45,000 miles on them with about a quarter of the tread left. ya their not as agressive but their still pretty deep tread and look great IMO. depends what you need them for....mines about 95% of the time on pavement and the off roading is very slight mud, nothing crazy. so it depends what you need the tire for.... oh and i do love the mud grapplers mud their down fall is the mileage...talked to a guy that had them on his truck and they were pretty bald...almost gone and he said they got about 22,000 miles on them. im in the same boat as you...paying for 35x12.5R20......and i dont feel like shoving out $1400 for tires every year!

The height of the tire is'nt what you should be concerned with.. The width of the tire is what i would worry about... If your truck is like mine i have the independant front suspension and im not sure how wide you can go with that.. The stock 20" wheels and tires on my truck are just like yours and with the stock tires BARELY clear the upper A arm as it is.... So if anyone else knows what to do about that Please let me know as well....

ya i know what you mean...i dont have a problem with the upper control arm...but i do have a clearance issue with the sway bar. i have 305/50R20 on my truck right now and they have about a 12.5" width. so im not too worried although i do know how to fix this and its fairly simple...some dont like to do it...but IMO just keep check on your lugs to make sure theyre tight. you just need to add spacers in between your hub and your rim. if i needed id only do like a quarter inch to push it out to what i need.....ROMEOSOLDIER has 1.25" spacers on his to push them out...but i think hi tires are 13.5" wide. the only problem i see with that clearance issue with the mud grapplers is there side bitters...those side lugs are huge! and could easily rub into your steering components

Yea and this is the reason im havin such a problem... I would like to keep my factory 20's but because of that issue i was thinkin of goin 17" wheels that have more backspace and offset to them.... im not sure if i like the idea of wheel spacers or not...

On this Wheel spacer subject i just feel that they would be hard on the bearings and hubs..... Anyone know if they are or not???

The Nitto Mud Grapplers area fantastic performing tire in just about every off-road situation except sand, when they have tread. And that seems to be the problem, everyone I know who has them has had an issue with the tread wearing down in no time on the pavement. Road noise is a major issue as well.
Toyo's & Mickey Thompson's may cost you a bit more now, but will cost a lot less in the end due to their longevity.
As far as Pro Comp's go, I have read about a dozen guy's stating how much they love 'em and how long they last and ten times more than that (plus EVERY guy in my hunting club) complain about how fast they wear down. I've got a kid works at the golf course with me who has a set of Pro Comp A/T's with 18k on them that are slicks. Now I don't doubt the word of those on this forum who've had good luck with them, but can't understand how some guys get 50k out of them and others can't seem to get 25k out of them. I'll try to get a pic of the 33's on this kids Jeep...
