Default Weight Distributing hitch

I have a '74 Airstream camper that I am in the process of restoring and I am wondering if I need a weight distributing hitch when I pull it. It weighs just over 4000lbs and I'll be pulling it with my 03 1500 QC Hemi 4x4. I've read some places that you want a WDH for anything over 5000lbs, but I want to be sure so I'm not wagging this thing all over the highway. Thanks for the input!

I Don't Know About The Actual Requirements.. But Towing With My WDH Is Worth The Quality Tow By Itself..

If You Haven't Used A WDH Yet.. It's A Night and Day Difference.

I Would 100% Recommend It Regardless

A WDH is never a bad idea. Not only are they recommended witha trailer heavier than half the capacity of the truck, but a great idea for any trailer that is bulky enough to catch a wind gust no matter what the weight is...

get airbags too and the thing will feel like a 2500 besides the power and braking part. Mine with airbags sits perfectly level with the front torsion bars cranked. I have a trailer with a gwr of 10,000. It doesn't weigh that much but its still HEAVY.

Yes, get a WD hitch. The most bang for your buck is the Equal-i-zer brand made by Progress Manufacturing. Your Airstream and ram should use the model with a 6000 lb rating which uses 600 lb bars. Get more details at www.equalizer.com. You should be able to find the complete set up for under $500. They have dealers all over the country. I have a Ram and Airstream and would say that the Equalizer is one of the most used WDH set ups by Airstream owners. Another choice is the Hensley Arrow WDH, probably the best you can buy, but then again it is around $3000.

i'm glad this post came up cause i'm thinking of pulling a trailer in the future. i believe the factoryreceiver is a class 3. did you guys with the WDH upgrade to a class 4? i imagine you did as the factory tow package doesn't seem too beefy.
