Default 180 T-sta install...

Hey yall.. So i went over to the auto hobby shop here on base today, changed out the front diff fluid. That was a pain in the ***, the top 4 bolts are a bit*h to get to, and filling it is not all that easy. Then i changed out my thermostat and but in the JET 180* T-stat. All i can say is wow, my temp is ridiculously cooler now. Its about a 15 mile, 20 minute trip from my place to the shop, i took a pic of them temp gauge when i got there (before the install) and one when i got home (after the install)... its a whole lot cooler. It almost seems like it stays too cool... what do yall think?

That's where mine settles -- maybe a bit higher, but not much. I have my e-fan controller set to come on at the old "normal" position. My truck has not thrown a code, so I presume it's happy.

You'll get a bunch of answers on this one I bet. Anywhere from 160 thru the stock 205. Performance shop guru's told me that ideal is between 180 and 190, good for all year use in most locals. Only deviation is they said for northernmost climates (like Minn, Canada, etc.) it would not be a bad idea to put the stock one back in for winter use.
The 180 T-Stat richens the mixture justa tad, which makes for a nice balance when you have a lot of "lean" mods like a tuner (advances the timing which leans the mix a little) CAI and LT Headers which will also tend to lean you out. Since I have all three, I really needed the T-Stat to keep me in the proper air/fuel ratio. A lot cheaper than a piggyback A/F controller...

Well i dont have the headers, but i do have a CAI and Superchips (on performance setting). So should i be good with this where it is? and i did keep the stock one, so i guess thats good, ha.

Yea, the power wire and a lower temp t-stat basically both do the same thing, your PCM gets fooled into thinking your truck is always still warming up, so it richens the A/F ratio. In theory, you get a couple more ponies (and lose a smidge of MPG's) due to the increase of fuel in the mixture...
