speakers
You can put a new h/u in if you like but you dont have to. Either way most h/u put out 75 watts at best. Simply run an amp to the speakers so the amp powers the speakers and not the h/u. this will clear up your crackly speakers.
thats what i thought....but i just wanted to make sure....ill get a new head unit eventually...sooner than later because mine doesnt have an aux for my ipod....i want that, and besides....a free nice head unit....why not.

free head unit as in i know a guy that can get me one lol. ya its just laying around so i figured hook it up...only problem is i dont have any connectors or anything....my amp doesnt have the little screw where you lay the speaker wire on and screw it down to the terminal....mine has like prongs that looks like a connector goes to. it came out of my dads old 3500 ram
The crackling could be from just too much bass going to the speakers when it is too loud, i had the same problem. but now i have my speaker bass set to -6 and just the bass from my subs and my speakers sound good.
try turning the bass down on the head unit and see if the speakers still crackle, then you can find out for sure. There could also be a crack somewhere in the speaker that could cause crackling as well.
