Default Auto Headlight mod questions

I saw the mod in the 3rd gen mod list, but I was wondering......

$45 for a photocell and a couple pots seems like a lot. Anyone know how to make one of these things with just the base components? I'm thinking a pot connected to a cap that lets you adjust the speed of charge, then it flips a relay. Or something like that (not exactly an electrical engineer here). I thought I saw a post about this somewhere, not sure if it was here or not though, and a search has turned up nothing else.

I'm hoping to do this on my new Nissan Sentra as well. Oh, how I miss my Toyota.....

Ya know the little black bump that sits at the front of every Toyota's dash? And a lot of other vehicles these days, chevy's in particular. It turns the headlights on when it gets dark out. They are an amazing convienience, especially for my wife who thinks headlights aren't necessary when the streets are well lit

I think I paid about $35 for the kit, works great..... didn't seem like an unreasonable price to me. I would have paid a lot more for the convenience.

It just bugs me that those light sensors cost about a dollar wholesale, and they charge that much for the whole thing. I build everything I possibly can, and every penny is important to me, guess I'm cheap, but I hate being ripped off Maybe I was meant to be Amish.....

Is there no one out there who knows how to do this? Or does nobody actually care about this feature? If people want to know how to do this, I'll start messing around and try to come up with a good method, but I'd rather have someone who knows what they are doing help me out

True, but that's just because the majority of people don't understand a products worth. They buy a vehicle at invoice and think they got a good deal for example. Computers are a great example. Find a nice $700 dell, I'll get you a better machine, better warranty, parts, service, and much faster for around $450-500. And I still make a profit. Like I said, I'm cheap, not thrifty, but cheap! And proud of it

There is more to it than just the photocell, you have a relay and the control unit. I'm sure you could figure something out, but once again for $35 I think it's a great mod for the money. Here is the link to the DIY. https://dodgeforum.com/m_1159708/tm.htm
