I just recently put the Flowmaster DOR 50series on my 4.7 QCSB 05 4x4 ram. Now I am looking into high performing CAI's that are going to get me the best bang for the buck. I am looking at three of them right now. I am looking at the AEM Brute Force Air Intake, The Volent Ram Air Intake, and the K&N 77 Series Air intake. AEM claims to be the best performance CAI out their, but the Volent is recommended by KRCperformance and they build stuff for the 4.7. Also the K&N is very well know and a good performer. Any thoughts on these CAI's? Are there any other CAI's for the 4.7 that I should look into?

Personaly, I installed the Trueflow XDI, I'm very happy with it, and got a great deal on it.

 

I have the Flowmaster 50HD muffler on my Hemi and a K&N 77 CAI.
If performance is what you seek, the Flowmaster was a poor choice. They are among the poorest flowing aftermarket exhausts made, often flowing worse than stock. Chambered mufflers are often quite restricitive and Flowmaster really makes performance sacrifices for that great sound. I bought the muffler at the local auto parts store and installed it myself when my truck was like three weeks old, so I never researched it. I've never had a problem and it sounds fantastic, just not the best performer out there.
Also, I got the K&N 77 about two and a half years ago on Marty's advice at KRC. They have dyno tests there in a database on EVERYTHING. I guess the Volant is giving good numbers now.
If you do decide on the K&N, don't get the 77, go for the one with the plastic tube (model 63 I think). You really get an annoying sound from the EGR valve that is REALLY amplified by the metal tube...

 

yeah, Hammer is right. I have the Trueflow XDI in my small block 3.7L and the intake helped increase some of the low end torque...

 

i say get the ebay cai. 10% of the price gets you 90% of the power of big name brands.

 

Those seem pretty nice, but are those ebay ones any good? Hammer what would you do if you were me? I am more or less looking into the volent ram intake system or the AEM Brute Force system. Would you get one of those super high performance ones or cheap out and go with an Ebay one?

 

I'm not saying that the cheapy ebay ones are not good. I've heard a lot of guys sing praises on how their $99 ebay one was no different than a $299 K&N. I've also read a lot where the guy had to go to the hardware store and buy clamps & PVC to make it work or simply that it fell apart in three weeks.

I was asked a few months ago why I spent $30 on a stainless steel Jet 180* thermostat and not just get the NAPA one and trim it to fit for $8. I answered that I spent $30,000+ on my truck, another $8000+ in mods, why would I not spend $30 on a name brand thermostat with a lifetime warranty.
But that's just me...

 

That's kinda where I figured you would go with that. Only the best four my truck. The only question is which would benefit me more... Volent Ram Air, AEM Brute Force, or the TrueFlow? All are great and performance will probably be pretty similar on all of those. Out of those three what would you put on your truck. Remember I am going to add in... headers, magnaflow cats, 212x cams, and will probably need a 72mm TB to run the Cams, and I will probably get a magnaflow 4x11 or 4x9 single in dual out muffler. What is your advise?

 

I honestly couldn't tell you which of the three is the best. As long as you go with a good name brand filter and the CAI ditches the stock air box and baffle, you really are splitting hairs from one to another. I've got the K&N, but mainly because I'm 41 and when I first got into moddin' my vehicles, 20 or so years ago, that was pretty much the only game in town. Never had an issue with one, so I've stuck with them.
