My truck must have issues. I only get 12 mpg highway, with a JET chip in. I get to about 45 mph and my last gear sets in. When I push on the accelerator, I go nowhere until I puch enough for the overdrive to kick in.
Rich, I would have to say that your problem is that your overdrive is kicking in at 45, mine kicks in at 35 sometimes. If you have a tow/haul button try driving with that until you get to the speed that you want, then disengauge it.

I have a 2002 1500 4x4 QC with the 4.7, bought it from my father a few months ago. While he was driving it the overhead console said the average mileage was 12.7 and he drove it like my grandmother drives her car. How are you guys getting such great mileage out of these motors? Are yours 2wd? Did they improve the gas mileage of the newer motors that much?

You can get a lot better gas mileage by doing a good tune up. Plugs, oil, etc. I've found each truck is different. Some weeks, I'll be getting kick a$$ mileage and others, just horrible. It depends on how good your truck is running, how you drive and your driving conditions (a lot of lights, etc.).

Before with 3.92 Gears I did about
12-13 City
17-21 Highway on 91Octane for both

Now with 4.56 Gears
15-17City
15-19 Highway on 91Octane for both

If im cruisin no wind around 19-22mpg highway but if there is a little bit of head on wind ill get abour 13mpg highway and it wont budge up or down..
