Shift Concerns
Many times when the truck has been sitting for a while and I get in, when I put the truck in reverse it does not immediately engage 100%, I can rev the engine and it will move bu tyou can feel that it is not completely engaged, I took it in for service and they told me that it was ok, anyone else have this or heard of this issue.

Could it be the torque converter "bleeding down" ?????
I do know that on earlier tucks, this used to be a problem.
? 07's though.
Also, there was a problem with some of the older type cartridge spin on filters, in the tranny.
They used to alow the tc to bleed away tranny fluid, so it took a slight while for the tranny pump to fill the tc back up, before drive was fully restored.
If your not happy, take her to another dealer and if they say it's still OK, well just put herin drive for a few moments and then take off.

i took mine in to the stealership for the same thing,
but i had read on this forum that there was flash update
for the pcm to fix this issue, so i mentionedit to the service advisor.
they went and downloaded it and flashed my pcm - problem fixed !!!!
a side effect was it acually made my k&n fipk work better.
i also got a good belly-laugh when the service advisor told me that the
k&n intake was what caused the transmission problem !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my 06 does the same thing, i just slip it in neutral right after startup for about 10 seconds, drop it in drive or reverse and off you go. i didn't know there was a flash update that would fix it. if i set my computer back to stock (bully dog downloader) got it re-flashed would the BD downloader kill the new flash when resetting the premium tune?
Moe in Wichita, KS mopar auto trans
I am not a trans expert. This is just what I have learned about mopar trans over the last 40 years
On the older mopars the Trans would not go in reverse when the Trans oil filter was clogged, cold weather made this worse. Why rev. and not forward gears? Because rev. runs the trans. line pressure to 350 psi. forward gears to 100 200 psi. the higher pressure takes more volume of oil that the clogged filter can’t pass. but I don’t know about the newer trans. Also the older trans stops the lube line in park so in hot weather don’t sit idling in park. If your older mopar trans bangs real hard going straight to rev. try going to low with the lever, then go rev. it wont bang as hard. But it really needs a low/rev band adj. A trick to get longer life is to put rear end grease in a trans, one or two qts. Two works good in 727s. It will shift better to. I have used this trick on the older trans, 727, 904s with no bad effects. This may or may not work on newer trans. I have put one qt in my 99 Dakota v 6. about 8 mo ago, so far so good. A cooler is ALWAYS a good idea. I have had shift kits in two trans, I think they are good. Just don’t do full race kit on a street trans. I understand the newer trans have a check valve in the cooler lines. So if one of these trans blows up the check valve will hold junk and keep the fluid from lubing the trans. So the valve needs cleaned after a blowup.
get in touch with these guys. i have known them from the 60 s they are honest. 90% of ALL trans shops get parts fro a & reds. they will know the answer to any question. I am not a trans expert. This is just what I have learned about mopar trans over the last 40 years

If its an 06 through 08 get the dealership to flash the PCM. My 07 does it occasionally. Haven't had the fix done yet.

Same problem with the dakotas, we're talking about it over on the dakota forum too. They tried the filter replacement bulletin...didn't help. They checked for updates, none out there for my '05. So they decided to just call it normal operation. I don't think engagement for 10 seconds or so is normal. [&:]
