no changing your oil right away is retarded. As for amsoil you do not have to send in samples, if I mailed you what I pour out at 10k miles itll be better than your dead lizzards at 2000 miles.
And for that powertrain warranty dodge can't deny your claim. Do you plan on keeping all your receipts for oil changes, are you gonna do them yourself or have the screwership do it.

I plan to see the dealership as little as possible. Never again would be ok. And why would you have the dealership do it when you have to pass fifteen oil change places to get to the dealership? So I can listen to their sales pitch for all these "required maintenance" items that aren't listed in the owners manual maintenance schedule? No, I'll do it myself.

I change my own oil. I rotate my own tires. I even do my own brakes, shocks, plugs, filters, wipers, stereo installs, etc. My company pays for one oil change per month for my truck at an oil change place, but I buy the oil on the company's dime and do it myself. Since the Dodge is not the truck I use for work, it gets changed a little less often, but I still do it myself.

And for the first time, I got a folder, wrote "2008 Dodge Ram" on it, and put the ticket with the oil and filter in it! I'm going to try to keep a log of all maintenance done to the truck.

I've always changed mine around 3000. Never read the manual completely but would have NEVER guessed that it says every 6000 miles. Any idea what page you read that on cause i'd sure like to read it and bring it to the dealerships attention since I get something in the mail from them about every 2 months saying "It's time for an oil change" even though I've only had them do it once since I've owned the truck.

I'm a little over 30,000 and now the stealership is telling me I need to come in and get the front and rear diff fluid serviced along with the transfer case, air filter, spark plugs etc etc to the tune of $950. I told the girl she is out of her damn mind.

Yeah, I'm almost always amazed at how much they act shocked when I tell them just how far away from reality their prices are for work that will only take me an afternoon.

My favorite one, though, was the dealership where the service manager handed me a maintenance schedule that looked just like the one in the owners manual, except all of the maintenance intervals were cut in half! So instead of every 30,000 miles, theirs said every 15,000, or 5,000 instead of 10,000, and so on. I told the service manager that this didn't match the owners manual. He told me it was newly updated last year. I told him it didn't even match the one on the manufacturer's website, which I had just checked last week since I'd lost the manual! He didn't have an answer for that one, except a lost expression that said he didn't have a slick answer!

My wife has an 07 R/T charger and I saw on another thread that using a different weight oil could mess up the MDS and cause it to not kick in. Don't know if that is true and if so I would think that it would hold true for the MDS Ram as well.

maybe ??

No MDS here. No Hemi. 4.7L Magnum only. 310hp is close enough to the Hemi's 345 for me. Even with MDS, the threads here say the Hemi still gets less mileage than the 4.7L.

I can definitely understand you guys concern over oil changes, but are you aware that Mercedes Benz use's Mobil 1 synthetic and changes the oil in their vehicles every 7,500 miles? I know this is a fact because one of my co workers has a Mercedes Benz.
I even went online and was able to find additional information on this topic, and learned that in the UK everyone that use's synthetic oil, changes their oil at 7,500 miles or so, even longer depending on the type of synthetic oil being used.
I think people here in the US have grown accustomed to changing their oil at 3K miles because we were so used to using Dino oils, and it was something that was drilled in our heads years back....
I presently use Mobil 1 Extended Performance, which is guaranteed for at least 15,000 miles. but i never take it that far, and instead change it out at 10,000 miles, or so...
Personally i think it's a waste to put synthetic oil in your vehicle and then turn around and change it out at 3K miles. But hey, if you got that kind of money to waste, more power to you......

talk about money to burn on oil changes! i asked at the dealership today how much it would be to get mobil 1 for my oil change and they told me it was ten dollars a quart. TEN DOLLARS PER QUART!?!?!?!?! that is sixty bucks for oil and then the money for the service? holy jeez. i can get it done at wal mart for 49 dollars, same oil, same filter, and they wash my windsheild! plus i work back in automotive and i know they will do it right.
