Ram 1500 Quad Cab
Received a phone call not ten minutes ago sales guy has instructed me that Dodge is offering a 10K rebate effective today on all Ram trucks. However, they paid 3K less on the invoice. Should I take the 10K off the invoice and another 1-3K in negotiations? What are your thoughts?
Let the dealer have a reasonable profit. Say $1,000 above invoice. Then you take the $10K. $9K below invoice will almost make up for the hit you'll take when you drive it off the lot. My suggestion is buy the used truck and get a reliable third-party warranty if that's important to you. What's the "normal" warranty, 3/36?
Follow up question to earlier post. How do I account for options added by the dealer on the invoice price? Do they actually add them at he dealers shop or done at factory? Also, are those amounts marked up as well? Do they get reduced as well when figuring the price?
The invoice won't show any of the dealer-added items. That's the invoice the dealer has to pay Chrysler (less the dealer hold-back). Dealer-added items are added by the dealer (what a concept, right?). Those often have WAY more markup than the truck, typically double or triple. Some of them are pure fluff (paint sealers, fabric protection). Beware of the infamous "ADM" (Additional Dealer Markup) option. That's a popular dealer-added item that has no value. Many add-ons can be bought elsewhere for less and may be better quality. Even if they do get reduced, they have more to take off and still make a decent profit. If you want a realistic value on the truck you're looking at, visit Edmunds.com
if you were to purchase an extended warranty for the used one it would probably be in the $2000 range anyway, which would put you at the price of the new one.
i talked to my dealer about getting one in the $25k range and he laughed. he said there was no way anyone is selling them that cheap???????
BTW- i bought mine from a different dealer using a friends 'employee choice' discout for $24,200 for a truck with a sticker of $35,090.

Just to piggyback, the warrenty is not transferable. READ the fine print, in order for your warrenty to be valid you must have your truck inspected every five years. But it gets better, it must be within 60 days of the in service date anniversary every five years.

Picked mine up on Valentines day, so it will be easy to remember.

Yesterday Chrysler announced $2.99 gas for 3 years with any new vehicle. 12k miles a year limit. At 4 bucks a gallon and 15 mpg, thats $800 a year savings. Add that $2400 savings to the 10k discount and you are getting a hell of a good deal. Oh, I forgot to mention, a lot of dealers are giving a free Hemi upgrade also, that will save you another $945. I got it just by asking. Several people on these boards have said the same thing.
It is a great time to get a great deal on a truck!
Here's an excerpt off an internet article in Motor Trend:
Dealerships in Sacramento, Calif.,are offering some$13,000 in discounts off a Ram 1500 Quad Cab SLT 4x2; anyone who regularly browses the Sunday classifieds in other areas is likely to see similar but possibly less extreme rebates on the Ram. To avoid the excessive inventories with which Chrysler struggled last year, it is imperative that most or all of these Rams get sold before the new models arrive. "We think our incentive plan will support an orderly run-out," Steven Landry, Chrysler LLC executive vice president for North American sales, told Automotive News. "It is absolutely tough out there for pickup trucks, both in terms of the competition and some buyers waiting on the sidelines."[/align] Ford's F-150 also debuts about the same time as the new Ram. Both models will compete with the relatively fresh Toyota Tundra and GM pickups, and all of them will likely face lower trade-in values than those offered a couple years ago. With high fuel prices beginning to affect consumer buying habits, we wonder how big of a sales bumpDodge will get from the 2009 Ram.
The article goes on to say that truck sales are down 22.9% for 2008 gas prices increasing which equates to an overall shrinking truck market many buyers are staying on the sidelines waiting to see deeper discounts. With the new 2009 models coming out and a 119 day supply of trucks you will begin to see things change within the next month or so. I was on a car chat line last night speaking to a Dodge sales person he things that employee pricing will roll out next month. I don't know the break even point on the trucks, but I really don't need the truck and we always have next month. I can tell you KBB and Edmunds each have about 31k for invoice price on a 2008 Dodge Ram Laramie with and addtional 3k-4K in dealer options (invoice price on options). If you back out the rebates of 12K you have a nice deal in the making. I will keep all of you posted. I had several calls out yesterday no returns.

New to the board.
Ileased mine new this past December in St Petersburg Fl. I'm from Miami
2008 Ram SLT Big Horn Edition 4.7 FlexFuel. Leather and Sunroof
3 year lease, 15K yearly.
Sticker was just over $33K. I got it for $24K and change. $1500 down (included 1st payment) $367 (all in) a month. No one in Miami could touch that price. I went myself to 3 different dealers in Miami and I enlisted abroker. The broker got the same numbers but not with the combination of options I wanted. In the end I am happy with my deal. When they handed me the keys thedealer also threw in a $250 gas cardfor a few mishaps and misunderstandings with the deal (long story).
I chose the 4.7 cause really it has more than enough power for my use and the 5.7 gas mileage is just offensive. But hey different strokes for different folks.
The Flex Fuel is utterly useless. We have one E85 gas station in all of South Florida. It a UGas off the Palmetto and Flager. The E85 is cheaper then 87by .50 to .60 cents but as we all know you get no where near the fuel mileage as 87. At $3.65 a gal for 87....E85 would have to be at $2.49 a gal to just break even. Then to top it offI'd have to hit the gas station more often. No thanks.
Cheers

Shop dealers and stick to your guns. They want to make a sale. They're gonna try and take you for what they can. Keep that in mind and don't play games. With gas prices so high and the '09's coming out, they'll cave.
