Default There's no replacement for displacement!

I'm right on the verge of buying a new 2008 Ram. I have a particular love of the control, etc. that comes with having a manual trans, but I like the toys and creature comforts of the SLT/Laramie packages. No dealers understand this, so I may have to order the truck. Even more infuriating is that Dodge won't put a manual tranny behind a hemi for me, even if I order one (unless I get a 2500/3500). I am "stuck" with the 4.7 in a 1500. I owned a 2004 SLT with the 4.7 and NV3550 and liked it a lot, so I don't mind having a 4.7.

BUT I WANT GRUNT! I can afford gas and don't mind paying for it.

Does anyone know how much room the 4.7 has for boring/stroking to get more displacement?

Also, back in the days before chrysler trademarked the word "hemi" as their own, many aftermarkets sold "hemi" heads for ford and chevy SB's and BB's (as well as CC engines), aimed at gearhead hotrods. Does anyone make a "hemi" head for the 4.7?

TIA,

J

if your'e gonna bore it out and all that jaz...

buy yourself a truck of somesort. maybe a 3rd gen not screwed up, but enough for an insurance company to consider it totalled. throw an engine in there...will still end up costing less than a new/moderately used vehicle.

on top of that, it'll be insanely unique. also, if you bore out everything in a new car, i'm pretty sure your warranty is void, so you're better off just building a streettruck. i mean, buy a dakota even..get a last gen dakota with the 360 in it...soup that bad boy up. OR, buy a third gen with 3489234757345 miles on it for a like 2000, spend like $1200 on a big block crate (get a chevy...just cause it'd be funny to put in a dodge), slap it in somehow...go nuts.

or...throw a lamborghini engine in the bed on truck. it'll be like a 1428374hp go-kart.

Why not just buy the 3/4 ton? Yes, its more weight, but by the time you hot rod the hell out of a 4.7 you MIGHT make the same horsepower as a stock Hemi. My advice to you would be to get the 2500 and be done with it. You get your Hemi and the standard trans.

I bet you can mod that 4.7 to put out quite a bit of power and maybe punch it out to 5.9 or more (don't quote me).

This is a daily driver, guys so I can't go quite as whacko as derrick wants me to (otherwise I would use a crate hemi 528 :-P).

I don't care about the weight of the 3/4 ton. I care about the sticker. I don't need the capacity or want the price of a 2500 or 3500.

I'm not worried about the warranty either. First, how are the dealer monkeys going to know that the engine is modified unless they tear it apart and start measuring? Even if they do know, they have to prove that the modifications caused the failure (whatever it may be) before they can consider the warranty void. Before that law was passed we saw a lot of crooked dealers blaming failed alternators on someone's kraco radio or bad cats on the dual exhaust.

Why not just buy an RC 06 SRT-10. 6 speed manual, V10.

It has all the creature comforts and more power then you can stand in a truck.

A good mechanic will know if the engine internals are modified without tearing it apart, all you have to do is listen too it run. And as soon as you open the engine up and replace stuffthe engine warrenty is gone unless its factory replacement parts. The mag-moss act will protectyou when it comes toalot of aftermarket parts but your going to need alot of luck when it comes to engine inernals.
