a/c sucks at idle
ORIGINAL: RamItOne
our clutch fan on our rads seems a lil small to me, so you gotta wonder when at idle where all the heat from the other rads are going? Dont forget the evaporator gets no air.... And the number one reason, aren't our compressors belt driven??????? Ding ding ding.

The evap getting air has nothing to do with the compressor being belt driven. All the compressor does is pressurize the gas freon into the condensor which turns it into a cool liquid, which goes into the evap...cools down the air being blown throughand comes back out a gas.
It is 330am and i'm tired so maybe i'm reading that wrong...I dunno, i'll reread it tomorrow

Phil,
Start the truck, turn the A/C on, and let it just idle. Use a volt meter set on DC and check if there is voltage to the fan. If so, you need a new motor, if not, probably a fuse. You may also try just giving it a little push to start turning, and see if it takes off. If so, you still need a new motor. The condenser fan motor is worn out---KAPUT

so you can't buy just the motor, you have to purchase the whole fan/shroud assembly, hooray for the warranty. on my paperwork for the warranty it didn't list this part as being covered but after they told me the part was $175 i had them check and would'nt ya know it..........
They all have a recirculate function. Onthe '03, it's the two left-most settings. One is recirculate to the dash vents only, the other also feeds the floor. If the condensor fan doesn't even turn when the air is on max cold and recirculate, you're on the right track for fuse or motor. I read a thread somewhere that it isn't absolutely necessary to change the whole thing. You can just change the motor. That would save a refrigerant evac and recharge.
