If they didn't have your permission to perform the work, thank them for their gift. They can't just arbitrarily perform service to your vehicle and surprise you with the bill when you return.

You should have been given the old cam sensor. It can be tested. If it's good, they're in hot water.

It actually sounds about right for the services they did if not cheaper. Everytime Ive had the dealership do the diff fluid (every 15K I believe) it's $200 just for that. then depending on their deffintion of a tune up it probably included an oil change which they always charged me $45 for that, thenadd in the3hrs of labor charges@ $75 an hour for labor give or take plus parts.

Im not trying to take the dealerships side by any means and if you would have worded things differently than saying you wanted a tune up you could have probably gotten out of there for a few dollars less.

I spoke to a guy at a dealership about a tune up. I basically wanted to know about a tune up on my vehicle. I gave him the particulars on my vehicle and he quoted me a price of $245.00..
I have to be honest with you....I was shocked at the amount...I asked what this amount would include...Basically change spark plugs and thats it...........And this is called a "Basic Tuneup".
Whatever happened to adjusting the adle? Well this guy, being honest with me said "Look find yourself a good mechanic and you can this same work done for a fraction of the cost"
Because these mechanics are being paid 2 hours labor to change spark plugs........
This is ridiculous.....now i know why my friends all choose to buy imports...at least with the imports they take care of the vehicle for 4 years..the only thing you buy is gas...

Typically i will take my vehicle to a Dodge dealership, but since this incident i will look for another mechanic.........I honestly believe that everyone should be able to make a living, because we all have families. But, these guys are making $75.00 dollars an hour.....and then they still want to rip off someone..

1) Dealership needs your authorization to perform work. You shouldnt have paid.

2) You guys need to learn how to do some of this work yourself. Changing plugs and diff fluid is easy stuff.

Idle dosnt need adjusted....sometimes the comp will need a update (flash) but that is ussually always free, they just do it when performing other work.

You're right about doing alot of these things yourselves..I used to do alot of it on my own, but then after my MVA, which really jammed me up, i rely on the shop to take care of it now..
