Leveling kit question
Hey guys. Just got a new 08 Quad Cab 1500 4x4 ram. I was researching on leveling kits for them. My question is do you need to replace the struts when adding the spacer or will the stock struts be long enough on their own? Also why does the top gun web site say that both the 2" and the 2.5" leveling kit will level a the truck? I would think one would of the two would not be right?
if the kit comes with shock relocation mounts..then you'll be fine with you regualr shocks. if not, then I highly recomend you look into a good shock thats 2" longer. as for spacer heigth, i got the 2.5" spacer becuase i wanted all the lift i could get, but if youre just looking to level it, id go with the 2". the 2.5" made my front end noticeably higher than the rear, so i added a 1" block to my rear to level it out. TGC (top gun customs) makes a very nice leveling kit for a good price. look into it
Are the leveling kits only for 4WD trucks? i have an 08 1500QC 2WD and I wanted to raise the front a bit. Easy enough to do with alll stock equipment, or should I wait until I have more money and do the suspension as well ? Thnx.
you can get them for 2WD also, like mmstar has. if you want to level but cant afford the shocks just yet, I'd just level it. worst you're gonna do is **** off the shocks, just replace them if/when they go bad.
nah you dont have to get new struts. i got the ready lift 2.5 system and its great.mmstar is right though..makes the front a tade higher than the back. but the 2in is still a little lower..so its really which extreme you want..they really need to make a 2.25 lift ha..thatd be good.but watev
They tell you they make the different sizes due to not every truck is the same, close but they want you to measure. Go to performancelift . com and they will explain to you about the shocks. Its not needed. The shocks will extend out that extra 2 or 2.5 inchs. They do not recommend extending your shock, you cause damage to your front end. The shock is the limiter on travel down, they do recommend changing the shocks for performance reasons only, due do there is so much room for improvment on the stock shocks.

you can get it for a 2wd, although your options are more limited.
and as what junior says...you dont need new shocks....i find that hard to belive. i stil havent replaced my shocks..but i KNOW they need to be. it rides alright on the street, but hit a good pothole or any quick drop in the pavement and your like holy ****. a longer shock WILL prevent this because it allows more travel! so that when you hit pot holes your shocks dont overextend.....problem solved!

I went with 3" longer shocks and it rides great now on and off road!
with mine being a 2wd, theres 2 options of longer shocks with a leveling kit. one option is 2" longer uncompressed, 1" longer compressed. thats a hair short. and the other option is 4" longer uncompressed, 3" longer compressed which is too long. i really need a 3" longer uncompressed, 2" longer compressed, but i have yet to find it! so rather than having the shock bottom out, im gonnago with the first option, and that shock comes off a 2500 2wd.
