Default Mileage 2500 Mega Cab 4x4

Looking at buying a 2007 2500 Mega cab 4x4 with the 5.7 Hemi and 4.10 gearing. Anyone with experience with this setup have comments regarding what I can anticipate for mileage and suggestions for improvement. I'm guessing 12-14 if I keep my foot out of it some but would like some other thoughts.

the mega cab with the hemi is just prone to bad mpg's. a hell of a lot more weight than the quad cab, and it has the same engine. if you want the mega cab, id look into the cummins. as for gaining mileage, you can look into exhaust, CAI or drop in. theres really a lot of things you can do. theres also tuners you can het that have an economy mode that will give you some help with gas. maybe someone else will chime in and help a little more

I've got around 2k miles on my new mega cab 4x4 and I average around 12mpg without driving like a bat out of hell. no performance mods as of yet....it is what it is...but it's a great truck, just hasn't found a gas station it didn't like.

Today with my Quad Cab I drove 125 miles. Problem is, a big part of it was stop and go on the highway because of car accidents galore. Just one of those days.Cost me 73 bucks for fuel. That's at 5/gallon.

I have the 5.7 with 3.55 gears. You can expect some big fuel bills if you have days like mine on a regular basis.

No MDS on the 2500 so that hurts it too.
My 08 Quad with a Hemi and 3.92 gears and 20" wheels gets about 14 in town and got 18 on the last highway trip. That was with under 1K miles on it. But it is also a 2wd, not 4x4.

what makes you think of or even worry about what kind of mileage your gonna get if your talking about a megacab with a HEMI to begin with?

It wasn't a worry about mileage, I was just looking for an idea so I knew what to expect. I knew it'd be bad, just wanted to know how bad. I'd love to just get a quad cab but the middle of the back seat isn't deep enough for a car seat and we need three across the back so had to go Mega to fit everyone's seats back there. Nothing worse than going to the field and not being able to take the boys when they're wanting to go!!

Hope you get a great deal on it. You might do a little better with the 4.10 around town. Highway mileage won't be as good. My vote for just around town is 11.

I get around 14 - 16 mpg with mixed driving, but attribute allot of it to gears and a light foot (fuel prices have got me takin' it way easy these days). Keep in mind my ride is only a quad cab....I had a buddy who got a Mega w/the Hemi...between the extra weight and the gears (3.55's I think) he didn't like it much and traded it within one year for damn near the same truck but w/a cummins...Now that thing is a beast and he gets better mileage than I do !!....but as others have put it, we don't realy buy big heavy trucks with large engines in them 'cuz they get good mileage now do we
