Default Daughter totaled the Neon

Hey all
I know this is the Ram forum but I'm venting here. I'm back in the catpan, some of you may remember almost 3 years ago I got the dreaded phone call from the wife about her getting in an accident with Ram (my Brandie). Heres what happened

I hadjust joined Neon Forum last week and here is what happened. I got the dreaded email from my daughter the other night that she was in a place she shouldn't have been, with a person she shouldn't have been with and she totaled ours/her Neon. She and the person are fine just shaken up.I'll post the pictures if I can figure out how to do it the right way. My wife had just sent out the first payment for it last week on it too. Not sure whatwe are going to do about getting another Neon or another car right now.

What upsets me is I know kids are kids but they always seem to NEVER listen to what the parents tell them and we do not know anything. She's a good kid but hardheaded, if we told her once we have told her 50 times to pay attention more and to be careful. I'm sure everyone with kids has had this happen to them. What bothers me is that this is the secound time I've returned to my unit off of leave and something like this has happened back home. I guess I'm being told it's time to stop going off from home anymore. I will be dropping my retirement paperwork when I get home I guess 23 years working for Uncle Sam is long enough.I know I'm venting at least (knock wood) my Brandie is running fine and true. Right now she is the only vehicle we have right now.

Stay Cool H-

Hopefully she learns from this accident. You got to always pay attention believe me I have learned that lesson.

You can tell her my story,I didnot get enough sleep and fell asleepat the wheel and rear ended a car on the interstate going about 75-80mph. Totally annihilated this old couple's mint condition 2001 Chevy Impala. I was very lucky that no one got hurt, I could have killed them and I could have killed myself all because one night out of the week I didn't get enough sleep and somehow let myself lose focus and fall asleep while driving. People think it can't happen to them, but the truth is it can happen to everyone.

I wish you and your family the best of luck I am glad that your daughter is okay and I hope you get a new neon.

Sorry to hear about that and I know your worries I too have a daughter that is driving and never seems to listen. Good luck in the future. I dropped my papers (ret) about 1.5 years ago and I have never regretted it.

Thanks all for the inputs, I guess some one is trying to tell me it's time to stick closer to home. I'm just glad she is alright. I've enjoyed my life in the Army but you lose so much on these deployments and just time away from the family is very tough. I wish I was home to help the wife, she's been a trooper through it all and I cann't wait to get back home NO car for a while for her, we're not sure whats going to happen at court she got a reckless driving ticket/excessive speed ticket. It sucks and I know that when it happens to someone elses kid you cringe but think that maybe the ticket was a blessing the kid shouldn't be driving. Now that it's my kid it definatly a different feeling but possibly a blessing in disguise. I hope we can work something out though for at least a drive to college and work licence. She will be on a tight leash for a while.

Good kid just bad judgement, again thanks all, H-

man totaling a neon, that's hard to do, did a shopping cart run into it?

I wrecked my moms brand new vw bug years back, it was a 5 spd turbo so kinds fun to drive around in. Anyways I played chicken with a pine tree at over 60, it didn't move out of the way. One of the headlights shot out of its housing like a torpedo on an old pt 109. The pine tree did tilt about 20-25*, had less than 1600 miles on it.
Oh well, live n learn. All because of a milkshake, left a girls dorm and was driving home around 1am and decided I wanted milkshake so I exited and the other road is where I wrecked. I still got the milkshake that night after the wreck.

Don't let her drive for a while, ESP if she wasn't where and with someone she was supposed to be.
