Adding an amp to stock sound system
i was wanting to add an amp and subs to the stock stereo in my 04 quad cab 2500. Model # of the radio is p05091979af. I has the 6 disc changer and infinity sound. Any help would be great.
Thanks

What I wanted to do is just add an amp and put some subs uder the rear seats. Just not sure how to go about it. If there is an amp already, it may need to be replace too depending on the power. Sorry for being stupid, but i just don't want to change the deck and the stock look of the dash. Thanks for your help.

different story then...that amp was for your door speakers
Go to foxacoustics.com and look at his boxes for our trucks, they give you alot of airspace (and 160 for a custom look box is a great price), and the subs are up to you! JL makes my favorite, but you can go to best buy and get alright ones or even a pawn shop, its all up to how much you are wanting to spend!
The easiest thing to do is to buy a matching amp for your subs...ex. 2 JL Audio w3's and a JL Audio 600 or 800 watt amp
If you cheap out on the amp and buy one of those legacy or lanzars, they actually dont send what they are rated for (a 1600watt amp might only push 500 true watts)...Ebay has great prices on all of this, and they have good amp kits for it for cheap also!
I finally bought an aftermarket head unit with much help from Ben D., and was kind of scared of ruining the stock look...Totally went away, i got a flip out clarion screen and it looks like a professional system! I kind of wish I had gotten an in-dash, but its still awesome!

Is there somewhere I can find a layout of how the stock system is set up? Like where the amp is for the doors and is there a stock sub? my kid has a 07 Nitro and has the premium sound that has a nice sound and decent botom end but really does not hit as hard as wee woul like. But I know where everything is in it but have no clue on this truck.
Sorry to hijack your thread, isn't there a trick to removing the antenna wire from the head unit? I just ordered a 6 disc mp3 type RAQ unit to replace my single disc REF unit and I don't want to screw up my antenna. Thanks, Jimmy

lxman, i took mine out and had to but that adapter to use the antenna for my new head unit, only like 1.50
and on the setup, the amp should be under you steering wheel i think, i havent taken mine out...the stock system would have a 10" sub under the back drivers side seat with an enclosed amp in the box...the easiest way to do this is to put the amp either under your drivers seat or behind the back seat....if you replace your factory amp with a 100 or 200 watt and buy new 3 way speakers for all doors, leave the same dash speakers, maybe put a set of tweeters in...that along with a good 10" sub will give you really good sound, the Nitro will sound like a boombox compared to yours
