Possible Rear Main Leak on 07 Power Wagon
Needless to say I'm a bit disapointed that after 16K miles, my 2007 Power Wagon seems to have some sort of minor oil leak from the back of the engine into the trans bell housing - rear main seal?????. Been noticing a drip at the bottom of the bell housing inspection cover since May. It takes about three weeks and 700 miles of driving for the drip to reappear after cleaning up. Removing the cover revealed no indication of where oil was leaking from, noris it being thrown around inside, but there is a slight oily area at the bottom of the bell housing.
Took it too the dealer last Thursday and they had it over night but could not find the leak [:@]. They added dye to oil and told me to bring it back when I see a drip again. I expected the quality and squeek/rattle issues like this when I bought it, but its too bad it is living up to my expectation [:'(]. Whatever it is I hope they can fix without causing more trouble.

That might be tranny fluid!
Per TSB 21-014-07 ... the transmission fluid turns from red to light brown with age. This can be confused as motor oil instead of tranny fluid.
My '07 is currently leaking from the same area & it turned out to be tranny fluid.
Here's a pic of my leak (note that the fluid is red in the pic 'cause I had the trans flushed after they added dye / leak is still there ..I gotta take it back in):

Well, well, that is what it looks like, same location on the cover. My drip occurs on the passenger side, and if I'm oriented correct in the photo yours appears to be the same. The drip in the photo seems a bit more orange/red than what I see on my truck but, the slight brownish area near the bolt in your picture is exactly what I see.
I have a call into the service guy as he told me to use a black light to light up the dye they placed in the oil. Problem is the black light I have does not light up the oil on the dip stick so I wonder if they even added. I'll mention this TSB to him when I speak with him.
Whats the story on yours, what exactly is leaking and are you getting it fixed? Also, any ideas whats the cause? I have been using the OD Off as an engine break and I wondered if I am overpressurzing the trans doing this and forcing the oil out.

^^^If your tranny fluid is brown in a 07 then you have some probs...does your tranny fluid have a burned smell to it?
M14, it does sound like a rear main from the way you're describing it...at least it's under warranty
. Just for ****s and giggles have you checked the rears of the valve covers?I have noticed the build quality you're talking about in my truck...it depresses me sometimes.
The biggest one for me so faris when the cab was misaligned whenI bought it new. I broughtto the dealerthinking the bed was crooked....that's how bad it was. Makes me wonder what else they screwed up since they can't even put the cab on the frame correctly.

By the time I get back home, a 2.5 hr drive from the dealer, low and behold there's the drip again. I took my UV light out and it glowed green from the remaining dye in the system. The drip is now red from the new tranny fluid ... thats how I know for sure its not the motor or rear-main on mine.
I got my UV light of eBay (an LED version) .. its best to look at it after its dark outside.
I'm not sure what's the cause ... they first claimed it was "over-fill" and said someone had been in the tranny because of the black RTV around the pan. After I sent the pics of the leak as you see, they said "oh, that's a problem". The only thing in the bell-housing side is the torque converter and the input shaft to the tranny ... so it's gotta be something with that I guess.
I'm going to take mine back in to another dealer when I get the chance again ... it leaks for now. [sm=headbang.gif]
I've looked around and find nothing leaking up high like the valve covers. There is oil or fluid inside the bell housing on the passenger side. SO, its a UV light i need. The service guy told me a black light to view their dye in the oil - which shows nothing when I put the dip stick under the light-figures he give me wrong info
.
Well, not sure what is worse - rear main or trans. I bet a rear main is worse. It would be better if the leak was worse so at least they could find and confirm. As it is it only seeps in about 700 miles.

Finally got my truck up to the Dealership ... Service Advisorsaid they would be replacing the "front pump seal" (on tranny) and it required pulling the transmission out completely ... said it would take a couple of days due to ording the part n'all.
First vehicle I've ever had to pull the tranny on ... I hope this is not a bad omen of things to come!

So ... after two full weeks in the shop to replace the front pump & front cover, I finally get my truck back today.
But the fun stopped there ... after a short 30 mi trip back home, I get under the truck to see how much of a mess they made in pulling the transmission and the first thing I notice .... the leak is STILL there!!
Giving the dealership the benefit of the doubt, I cleaned all the tranny fluid off and took about a 20 mi ride. Get back and look under the truck again ... leak is back, just as bad as before the two-week repair.
To make matters worse, now, there's some kind'a black rubber seal on the rear of the transfer case where the drive shaft fits in that is cracked & wet with oil!

You may need to find a new dealer. They very alot. I am following this thread closely so keep me updated.
I just had this happen: I had a noise/ squeal and my dealer thought the serpintine belt needed to be replaced. They did and noise was still there they then thought it was my water pump. My dealer replaced it and the noise was gone. When I got home from the dealer, I noticed a leak from the power steering pump. They then replaced the power steering pump and now every thing is good. My dealer was great and quickly fixed each problem and treated my time as very valuable.
