Default RE: guage problem

well i started taking apart my truck today. started by pulling off my oil filter and then draining the oil. then i took off the structual cover on the transmission. then i found out it wasnt coming off with out the cross member of the frame coming off as well. unbolted that and started unbolting the oil pan. had a hell of a time getting the gasket off since its bolted to the inside of the motor. so i took off the pan, then unbolted the pick up tube and then unbolted the gasket. WHAT A MESS! FULL OF NASTY SLUDGE!

which i guess ii what i was hoping for. oil pan filled with sludge, pick up tube screen was completly clogged, but the tube itself inside wasnt too bad so it doesnt look like it got to the oil pump, it just couldnt get oil because of the clogged screen. right now the screen is soaking in gas so it can clean completly and everything else is pretty much cleaned up and waiting to get put back together.

Good to hear it. I been checking back on the site waiting for you to give us the news.

Now just keep a close eye on the oil for the next few weeks, and don't go with any extended changes until 3000 mile changes come out in clean condition.

Ding, Ding, Ding-saved!

that's great!!! ^+1, you're past all the hard parts. i'd do the first cahnge at 1500, then 3000, then back to royal purple. but damn, that means you actually had low pressure that whole time, and the engine just took it. that's impressive.

I'm switching to amsoil soon, put in seafoam today, will go 500 before switching. maybe even run a synthetic blend first.

haha. ya i got on her last night a little bit to make sure there was any weird sounds, and that oil was sucking up pretty good and oil pressure remained. within abot 20 minuts a 1/4 of the tank was gone haha! im just really happy it turned out ok. ya i could go for a new truck, but i put a lot of work, time and money into this one. and id rather save up for a 2500 instead of getting a 1500 again. so saved my truck and a hell of a lot of money!

Congrats, mmstar!

Glad to hear it all turned out good for you. I've been watching this thread pretty closely, as I've got the 4.7 in my truck as well, and plan on keeping her till one of us is dead. This gives me a lot of hope for the longevity of this engine.

I guess you see what I was talking about when I said you wouldn't be able to pull one of the main caps to inspect the bearing. How long did the job take, and how did the inside of the pickup tube look?
