maybe a silly ?, butdoes the clutch fan have left handed threads or are they regular? i just donnt want to be torquing them tighter or break something.

that fan kit from moes is only 249.99 and 0 for shipping after you add it to your cart. pretty close to the same price.

so i'm bored at work, and i decide to do some math. check out the pic. now mind you this is with some assumptions about the fan, like 30 lb weight, and roughly 16-18 inch diameter.

that basically means that you are storing 120 horsepower in the fan every time you redline, and then pissing most of it away when you brake, or even shift. if it takes you 5-6 seconds to redline, that's pumping an average of 20-25 instantaneous hp into the fan. multiply by the .72 driveline efficiency that our trucks have (roughly) and you end up at somewhere around 17 hp to the wheels at full throttle!

Flex-a-lite says their fan takes 18 amps to run, some people say its 30 amps. even 30 amps, at 14.4 volts is only about 1/2 a horsepower!

So the (estimated) gains from clutch fan to e-fan are right about 17 hp. wow, i'm glad to be wrong. that's a pretty big difference.

You got all that information by using all that applied science while at work. I came up with roughly the same figure in a post a few days ago and you argue with me. You think I didn't use a sofisticated measuring device myself? I used a "butt dyno"!!!

its been shipped. hope it gets here by this weekend so i can get it installed. i sure hope it is 17hp. that would be sweet. i mean better mpg is great but hp is even better. i will sacrifice mpg for hp. mine is not a daily driver.

any tips on install? just trying to get it together so i can have a painless time with it.

If I get that kit. Is it basically a bolt on thing?

Could you do a write up? I have been wanting to do this for a long time but I am scared I would mess up the clutch fan thing when I am taking it out.

well got it installed. the clutch fan was a real bitch to get off. wedged a 2x4 to get it off. i was afraid i was going to break something while i was trying to get it off. called advanced auto and they have a tool you can rent to hold the water pump pulley. so i thought i am going to try it one more time before i go get the tool. wacked the crecent with a hammer a little harder and it came loose.

it really sucked.(the install) it seemed like everything i did just was going wrong. didnt want to put my shroud back on, but i had to because i didnt have any metal around to mount the overflow and washer fluid tanks. metal i had was either to big or to small to support it.have to fix up some brackets at a later date.it took about 5hrs from start to finish. tried to do everything real neat.

as for the 17hp, no way. maybe 5hp. i only drove it about 10 miles after install. i had to go to work. i will let you know later on the mpg later.

Just weighed my clutch fan, and it weighed 11 lbs on the bathroom scales. Maybe that's off a lb or two, but the fan isn't anywhere near 30 lbs.

FWIW, I gained an average of 1 mpg when I changed, so it is sucking some HP. Also, towing 3,500 lbs through the mountains, I've had no problems. I used a Perma-Cool fan with 2,900 CFM and homemade shroud.
