Default what's the deal with mds

all i ever read on the forums is everyone can't stand the mds on our trucks. I have an 07 hemi with mds and it gets kind of annoying sometimes, but what do u guys think. Does most everybody just get used to it engaging/disengaging, or does it drive u nutz everytime u drive the truck. Does it really help with fuel mileage that much. Also, does the hemi run better on 91-93 octane, i have always run 89 but i wonder if higher octane might make it run better

MDS doesnt help much at all with a full size truck. I dont believe Dodge would put it on its 1500 trucks if the goverment didnt force them to. 2500/3500 dont have mds. As for gas, 89 oct is as high as you need to go.

do most of u just leave o/d off cruising around town. This is my 3rd dodge truck and my previous 2 had some trannyissues so i tried to hardly ever touch the o/d button

On long highway trips MDS does make a difference, common sensewill tell you that...city driving I doubt there's a gain. MDS gets annoying to me in slow traffic or stop and go on the freeway...I turn the o/d off if i'm going under 45ish to solve that.

I run 87 in mine and it's fine, same performance/mpg that I had on 91 so the pcm isn't pulling timing or going off a different fuel table. The hemi compression is only 9.6:1...and they run pretty rich from the factory so there's nothing to worry about detonation wise.

to tell u the truth the only time i really notice it is when i'm going about 30-40 mph and i need to speed up justa tad, so step on the gas a little and it surges pretty good. I notice it a little on the freeway, but not really enough to drive me crazy. Maybe i'll just cruise with the o/d off unless it's a freeway trip, if it starts getting on my nerves a lot

I run 89 octane because that's what the owners manual recommends. Don't wanna void the lifetime warranty!![:'(]

Default RE: what'

Unless you have aftermarket exhausts, you'll never even know the MDS is there... I didn't know my truck was equipped with it until I started researching exhausts.... Even with the exhaust I'm glad my truck has it. Yes it makes a difference in mileage, but mostly in the constant highway speeds from 55-65 mph range... Stop and go I average around 13 mpg, but on the highway, not going over 65, I can squeeze 19 mpg's out of the tank, ask how many 05 and older Quad Cab owners can get that on the highway.... Mind you this is with a stock tune and 89 octane gas (and yes I've seen a decrease in mileage with 87, but mostly just with stop and go). However with the Edge programmer, I'm getting around 14 stop and go, and over 20 on the highway (not going over 65) in economy tune with 87 octane gas... (Have I mentioned I LOVE that tuner? )

Anyway, as with almost EVERYTHING that we debate on around here, it's personal preferrence. I personally like the MDS system, and I think it does a good job and what it's made to do... I used to drive around town with the O/D off to keep it from kicking in, however I like to hear it kick down into 4 cylinders nowadays... Anything that's helping me keep my pennies in my pocket and not in my gas tank is a friend of mine...

Is this true? Do you have any link in regards to this?
