RE: 4 10 gears??
If you have a 4x4 then 4.56's
If you have a 2x4 then 4.88's would be the best all round gear.
Mathematically 4.56's are ideal for 30-33" tall tires... after that you should be looking at 4.88's
The problem is they don't make a 4.88 gear for the 8" front axle so your limited to a 4.56 on the 8" front.
Also if your going to change the gears you should really consider stepping up to a POSI unit like an AUBURN or DETROIT TRUE TRAC. The Factory LSD is prone to frag and take out gears and even entire housings... They are ticking time bombs.

Yeah, I would say 4:56 for sure!

RE: 4 10 gears??
What is the main purpose of changing the stock gears? I have heard that between 30k and 60k miles your gears basically start being eaten up? Is that true?
I have an 05 Hemi 1500, only a 2x4. I dont do much towing at all, mostly in-town traffic and an occasional road trip. What would be the best gear ratio I would want to go for, if I planned on keeping the stock 20 inch wheels with a 275/60 tire (such as the Cooper Zeon LTZ)?
Any advice is appreciated as I am not familiar with transmissions and stuff. I would hate to put all this money into my truck, just to have my gears take a dump on me in a few years and ruin everything.

If you are not going with any bigger tires, and you don't tow that often, and you aren't in need of more power?? Then staying with your stock gears will be your best bet! If you don't want that extra power for a faster truck, or towing or 4 wheeling, then I personally wouldn't spend the money on new gears! Chrysler reccomends you change your diff fluid about every 15,000 miles if I remember correctly, so if you go 50,000-60,000 without changing it, it will wear more excessively. And if your stock clips in your diff fall off which is a know problem with dodges, then I would invest in 4:10 or 4:56 gears at that time without question!? As I understand your situation, you should be fine with what you have.
