You are on the right track. Exhaust, CAI and Tuner are easy to install, relatively inexpensive and give great mpg & HP gains for the money...

just take the damn thing to a performance shop, tell them you want the truck to scare the poo out of you when you press the right pedal, hand them the keys and 2 credit cards. it sounds like you'll have to have someone else do the work, so there's no sense in us telling you what we think should be done....just let the pros do what needs to be done. then have fun tearin the **** out of it

screw letting someone else work on it
i only let a shop change my oil once and they messed taht up
so i will not let anyone else touch teh truck

The 408 is a stroker kit to take the 5.9L (360 ci) to 408 ci. The 340 is an engine MOPAR put out between 1968 and 1973. The crank journals are different sizes in these engines anyway so the point is moot.

How much power are we talking about? How much do you want to spend? You are on the right track with the tuner, cai and exhaust. A cam would be my next step, then some improvement in breathing, ported heads or Edelbrock Aluminum heads. If that doesent make enough power for you, pull the engine and do a rebuild with some hi-comp pistons and add a shot of N2O.
