yea so did the first oil change on the truck yesterday. filled her up with 6 quarts of mobil 1 5w20 full synthetic the best they had to offer. and lemme tell ya the way it's set up on these new trucks the oil change is amazingly easy. took probably 30 min at best. and 15 of that was tryin to find my metric 13mil for the drain plug bolt. so much easier than my old wrangler w00t

Sorry for my ignrance, but I thaught you shouldn"t put synthetic in a new vehicle. If you can, let me know, I have a brand new 08 ram with 915 miles that I would put synthetic in when need be!

you would want to swap to synthetic at your first oil change which is 3-6k miles. i prefer three k. doesn't hurt the newer gas engines at all..
my oil filter wasn't a problem at all to get off. I will say it was tighter than what I would usually go when i do my own but it just took a bit extra manpower to get it off.

Sweet, Thanks. I was always told wait until the motor is broken in before you put synthetic in. It allows the rings to seal first!
don't know if thats true, but makes since

on older engines the break in period is about 3-6k miles. for the newer engines break in happens over the first 300 or so miles. it's in the manual for the trucks on the first few pages after the contents.

My master mechanic buddy said better to wait till about 10K to change to synthetics.... letting the seals break in is way more important than motor break in.... premature synthetics MAY cause premature oil leakage...
That's what I'm doing, 6600 miles so far and loving it

I have a 2008 ram hemi also, I thought it already had from the factory 5w 20 synthetic in it, does it not? Mine has 5000 miles on it and I was going to change the oil today, I was planning on picking up Mobil1 5w 20 synthetic from the store on my way home. Should I not do this now. Should I put 5w 20 reg oil in it until 10000 mile marker?

Well The way I look at it, if you wait no harm no foul, if you put it in now, and we are right, and the engine doesnt seal properly, and the rings dont set you are screwed. so better to wait until the engine is broken in... jbetter safe than sorry, just my .02!

newer engines break in in the first 300 miles. the cylinder walls are finished much better so there is not really any material between rings and cylinders that wears in. HOWEVER, that being said, i'm still with smokinbbl and say just go with the regular stuff for another two changes so you can monitor the engine better for the first 10k. you know that won't do any damage. ring to wall might not wear, but other stuff might.
