oil change on new trucks = cakewalk
I hate to admit it, but I agree with Feejay. (he gets a big head when I agree with him on anything
) but the "wait till you put in synthetics" is old school.
After the initial oil change get any metal particals, etc. out you are good to put a synthetic in there. Anytime after the first couple of changes would be fine...

yea hey hammer if you remember tell me how the royal purple stuff affects ur mpg in the truck. if it makes a difference I may go to that instead of mobil 1
i agree with feejay. most engines are broken in within the first 300. I ran a magnet thru the pan my old oil was in and found next to no metal particles in it at all. and I changed the oil relatively about 20 min after it was just done runnign to make sure everything woudl be suspended in it. and hardly anything. even after dumping out the stuff from teh filter saw hardly anything.
to be honest it doesn't matter wtf you put in lol. I'm a fan of synthetics because not much more expensive and if it's better for the truck then woohoo. but as long as you have oil in there you're not hurting anything. most vehicles come with synthetic from teh factory now too. now i woudln't empty the oil outta ur brand new car off the showroom and throw synthetic in but anytime after 3k miles is absolutely fine.

i feel dumb for even admitting this but i have never changed my own oil on this Ram. until today. i went to wally world, picked up six quarts of the Mobil 1 10w30 and stopped by the mom and pop parts store for my WIX filter. now i had been getting it done at wally world with the fram tough guard filter. i am trying to save my pesos so i decided to do it myself. it was so easy i was afraid i missed a step. from start to finish it took me forty minutes. that includes turning up the radio, and putting the used oil back in the empty bottles to drop off. i even had my three year old son in the way ''helping'' and we got r done. i drained, changed filters, plugged, filled, started, checked for leaks and checked the level and i feel like a chump for paying someone else to do it. so all in all i saved money, got a better filter, and spent time with my boy doing man stuff!
Bump That! The filter is in a stupid position, especially when you're like me, and like to fill the new filter before screwing it on. I think I've dropped the old filter 2 or 3 times, and the new one twice. But I learned, and put the cardboard down ahead of time.
Also, I also hate the wind. It gets blowing around my condo complex really hard, and it makes the stream go all over the place. Pan on the bucket tip works, and so does standing cardboard from the ground up to the frame as a wind block. That works good too.
Definitly worth changing the oil yourself, save money and you know some idiot isn't screwing with your truck.
As for the filter, I hand tighten mine, and I take it off with my hand. The factory filter, I crushed with my Mac Tool Filter Remover....the ratching kind. Destroyed it completely!

I hate where the filter is at. It always leaks all over. I hang a shop towel down there now.
Anyone do anything different so when you remove the filter it does not just spill everywhere?
I have been thinking of making some sort of splash guard to use during the change to help.
