Default oil change on new trucks = cakewalk

yea so did the first oil change on the truck yesterday. filled her up with 6 quarts of mobil 1 5w20 full synthetic the best they had to offer. and lemme tell ya the way it's set up on these new trucks the oil change is amazingly easy. took probably 30 min at best. and 15 of that was tryin to find my metric 13mil for the drain plug bolt. so much easier than my old wrangler w00t

Yep, the hemi's the same way, except with a little more oil, love it, truck sits high enough for me to just crawl under there and go to town...

I changed oil in my truck for the first time too. How nice it is not to have to put a vehicle on ramps. The drain "channel" is a good idea too to keep things clean. The only thing I didn't anticipate was the splattering of oil since it is draining from a much higher point than previous vehicle.

ya, and when you get some wind when its trickling out, it tends to blow the stream around. but ive found getting a medium sized bucket and putting the oil catch pan that your draining your oil into on top of the bucket to get it a lot closer to the drain hole in the oil pan. helps a lot.

I've heard quite a few people complain that the filter installed at the factory was a bear to get off. How bad was everyone's in here? It's time to do mine but I'm worried about the filter.

wouldnt know about factory. but my first oil change (for me) was at sears, and after i started doing it myself, it was a B!tch to get off. eventually came off with the oil filter wrench, but i heard if worst comes to worst the punch a screw driver through the walls of the filter and spin it off with the screw driver.

yeah the first one from the dealer was a pain but since then i have been doing them on my own and its cake. i change mine in 15 mins usually. i just had the longest one last week but thats bc i changed the rear end fluid too and took an hour for the rtv to dry enough to put the fluid back in lol

+1 Amsoil for the win...i hope.

and for some reason that filter is a b!tch every time. I put it on myself so I know i didn't crank too hard, but I can't get it to budge without the wrench. with a filter wrench, no problem.

oh, and get something that can handle more than the typical 2 gallons of oil that most pans are sized for. 7 quarts is a lot to manage in a 2 gallon pan...learned the hard way.
