Default RE: 4.7 ltr overheat problem - - - -

I had an 02 4.7L and I had a boat. The 4.7L overheated almost every time I hauled the boat so I traded it in fora Hemi.

I think the 4.7L just has overheating issues in general.

We have an 04 4.7 2wd auto bone stock other than flowmaster cat back. anyway it gets warm unloaded and hot with a load. well the water pump went today so i am changing it this week and i am going to put in a 180 tsat to try and help out a little. but this truck is hers and mine is an 04 2500 Cummins with about 425hp 900tq so if this doen't fix the problem then i am going to sell hers and get a 2nd gen cummins. anyway good luck with you truck.

180 t-stat won't help. Just burn more gas and wear the engine faster.

as fas as water pump and radiator tests air pressure tests that is all going to be what gonna have to go down next...as far as the tstat is concerned , it is def fitted in there correctly...here is thing though this problem occured pretty much before any of my mods , when i noticed it the only thing i had on at the time is dual exhaust. as i started adding mods the problem kept doing as it does...and even with a clutch fan , it still did the same thing ---i kinda do agree though with the efan thing, too me even though it still did overheat with the clutch fan, it seems that the elec fan doesnt blow nearly as close as hard as the clutch fan did when it kicked in. so i guess all in all , the cooling system has to be tested.

what e-fan setup do you have? if i remember right, it needs to flow like 3000cfm to keep things nice and cool.

Default Fixed it!

I fixed mine by changing the "fan clutch" AND "water pump". I have no doubt that the fan clutch was the main culprit. I took the pump to another ASE mechanic, said the same thing, "nothing is wrong with it".
I had both new parts in hand and now that they're on the truck it does not overheat at all. I ran the A/C at max cold with the truck at around 70mph for about 25 miles, worked like a champ.
Before, it would over heat at around 9 miles with A/C off. With A/C on it would happen in about 1 mile.
Also, now I do not hear the fan constantly running like I did before.

Good luck!
Todd
