I personally think that the MDS just takes some getting used to. I like mine so far. Getting just under 15mpg in the city.

Boy that site the stuff seems really overpriced. Even the Superchips thing is $20 more expensive than other sites.

Alright if I wanted better accelaration/passing power what would be some good gears for a 2WD 1500? I have stock wheels/tires size and an automatic.

I'm going to get that Superchips programmer so I'll have the Airram CAI, Gibson supertruck cat back and the superchips. Then I'd like to get the gears installed if someoner can link me to the actual gears I need (confusing I have no idea what I'm even looking at).

I'm not certain if going further would be worth it? I don't think a cam swap I'm capable of doing, I've never done it before. Someone suggested granitelli coils?? I can't find those, anyone have info/feedback on those?

airram. com is a good sight to get most your mods for your 03 4.7 ltr. after you get a couple of the common mods on , i would get a sct tuner.

Hey hammer z71, I am used to catching some flack, but honestly as i said before i love my little 4.7 and i owned a silverado with the big v6 vortec and all the buttons, i spent more time in the shop than on the road, then i traded it for my dodge and i have to say my truck drives and handle better than most of the cars i have owned.

Hey popps68, I had an '03 with the 4.7 and now have an '08 with the hemi MDS. So far, I think my '03 was a better truck. I put 110000 miles on it with very few issues. I've had some "nagging" issues with my '08 ... maybe related to MDS but not sure yet.

One of my close friends purchased a brand new ram qc 5.7 hemi with the mds, he was using it to make deliveries and just hauling stuff to customers very light stuff i might add, and every time he gets on the freeway it sounds like a hammer is beating inside the engine block.Gm tried this type of system with cadillac8,6,4 Anyone remember? Trouble from the factory, i hope chrysler knows more than GM about it, reliability??longevity??
I love my dodge 4.7, but this system has not been time tested enough.

The cylinder deactivation you're talking about was 20 years ago...that's why it didn't work. Technology (mainly computers) has grown by leaps and bounds...you'd have to pull the computer in a trailer to get the processing power back then that we have under the hood today.

Not only that but Cadillacs 8-6-4 was throttle body injected, so fuel would build up in the intake ports until back in 8 mode...the extra fuel would cause it to sputter or stall.

GM has their own "MDS" now but it's called Active Fuel Management...they both use oil pressure, collapsible lifters and programming to shut down the cylinders. MDS is actually simple tech compared to what it could be..

Well either way, I will just have to hold on to my little 4.7 i just have passed 33,517 miles on it , its an 05 qc, silver with a new set of definity tires, white letters, grey velour interior and i absolutely love it !!!!!!!! My wife owns a 98 jeep laredo with the 318 engine and let me just say it will smoke the doors off 4.7. She loves hers, it has 137,000miles, and still pulling like a pissed off mother-in-law!!!!!!! It even gave a friends charger with the 5.7 something to think about, i was right with him until he hit 100 mph, then i felt my littl 318 lose some steam, it is after all still a jeep and geared relatively low. Anyway i had a good time doing that!!!!
