Default Bought a 2003 4.7L 1500. Questions..

Hi well I bought a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 it has the 4.7L engine. I'm overall happy with the truck, it has 48k miles right now.

I got the truck very cheap, I was wondering what kind of performance mods people do? I don't need a Turbo/Supercharger or nitrous.. but I would entertain other mods. I noticed it's a pretty torquey little V8 but seems to struggle a little upper RPMS and highway speeds it doesn't pass all that well.

I added a Gibson Super Truck side exit exhaust and a CAI intake. Are headers a good mod? What do you guys recommend for a few upgrades?

Thanks.

You should look into Granitelli coil packs as well as just change the plugs. Better MPG as well as a little more HP so you may get the top end that you are looking for. They have a direct site but call around your local shops to see if you cant get the price down. I got mine for $375. Most pay about $400 to $450. Well worth it to me though.

What kind of plugs are good? I got some splitfire plugs for my GM truck and ended up having to remove them a week later, so I want to get something good the first time.

Ok where did you get Granitelli coil packs for your Dodge Ram. I checked ther site and They don't have it for the Ram. They have them for the Fords and I knew that because Sam installed them on his Truck and he brags about them. Just wondering where to find them.

Theres not a whole hell of a lot out for the 4.7L, but airram.com has the selection for our engines. CAI & exhaust help a bit, a set of good headers will give you a little more low to midrange torque. If you have the money to drop, you can't beat a set of good cams for midrange gains. Also, check the gearing in your truck, with the 4.7L engine, you want 3.92s or larger for decent acceleration. A lot of people recommend getting 4.56s.

The gibson SS short headers look okay, I wonder how hard they are to install? It doesn't show a crossover I'm assuming it using the stock crossover.

I have no idea what to buy for gears. I don't even know front/back means there's about 10 options a ton of different prices.

Several of my friends have the 5.7 hemi, i am glad i don't, they are having trouble with the mds,GM had trouble with it the old cadillac 8,6,4 some people remember. It was junk
from the factory, people had the darn thing get stuck in 8 mode or even worse 6 some even the 4 cylinder mode that would really suck imagine pulling a tank with a 4cyl.?

Popps, your gonna be in for a battle with them words. Last time I said something just a little negative about "if I traded in my truck it would be for a 2500 CTD unless I found I couldn't afford it then I'd get a 2500 Hemi, because I personally don't care for MDS in a 4x4 truck", I caught hell. So many posts from guys that I just stopped reading the thread. Most who have it, love it. And most I know don't have any issues (save the terrible drone with aftermarket exhausts), but I personally just wouldn't want it.

Locked88: Most people start with aftermarket cat back, CAI & tuner for easiest to install and relatively good performance gains at little cost. Looks like you just need a tuner. Superchips Flashpaq 3815 now supports the '03 4.7 and has some pretty good tunes.
Past that, check KRC Performance, one of the top shops in the country for Mopar 4.7, 5.2, 5.9 & Hemi performance parts...
