Hemi drivetrains are inherently noisey...I have 130k miles on my 05 and it still ticks to this day...we use to make a big issue out of this but now we just ignore it and move on and mod away...

Try a 1/2 can of seafoam in your crankcase. You don't need to drain it out after and you can drive the truck normally with the seafoam in there. One oil journal might be partly plugged, the seafoam will clean it out. Use the other half in the gas tank to clean the fuel system, best to use the 1/2 can with just under 1/2 a tankful of gas. Let us know the outcome.

mine does the same thing, but only after switching to Royal Purple. i've got the 4.7 also, not the Hemi. i cleaned out the engine before with 16oz seafoam before i did the change, let it run for 20 minutes to get warm and circulated. now it ticks like hell. i run 3 oz seafoam in the engine right now. but i'm still 5,000 miles away from an oil change.

I have very little Hemi tick in our 05, because I use Amsoil SSO 10W/30 oil in it. Synthetic oil, I assume, helps with the problem.

I have a 4.7 and mine has always ticked too. Runs just fine so I really wouldn't sweat it too much if you can't fix it.

Sorry let me give a few more details. It is the 4.7 and never had this noise before until yesturday. It ticks as soon as you start and increases with acceleration but seems to go away after about 10 mins or so, doesn't seem to effect performance.Could it need a tune up maybe new spark plugs?

If it ticks on start-up and goes away in 10 min. then it's "cold oil". When the oil warms up the tick stops. Clean the sludge and put in a good syn oil. The seafoam & syn oil should fix the tick. My .02

i have a 2003 4.7 and mine ticked on start up till last week oil pressure dropped and found out that this is an occurance on the 4.7 . my suggestion is to run a cleaner through it to get the sludge out of it or you will have to drop the oil pan and clean up the oil tube
