any suggestions 2003 1500 4.7
got a 2003 dodge ram 1500 and oil pressure dropped so i put a new oil pump in and it is doing better but it still drops to low and i have to rev the engine to get it back up also the rpms have dropped to to 6,000 rpms at idle. i have ordered a crank shaft pos sensor and a oil pressure guage but was wondering if anyone else has had this prob?
I would check the (Oil Sending Unit & Gauge) before I changed ANYTHING. That must have been allot of work swapping out the pump... did you do it yourself? I cant see the crank position sensor having anything to do with it.

Was waiting for you to jump all over this one...
You didn't say what year? how many miles?? I have ran across a few fords that the oil pump got a little weak before finally quitting on me. We had an old ram work van with the 360 it had 214,000 miles and the oil pump got weak, the guy who bought it had a new pump put on it and the thing is still running as good as ever.

Hey revtod,
Mine is the same ,05 4.7 q.c.You know you might start thinking about main bearings, rod bearings, these things also can lower oil pressure over time especially if you got over 100,000 mile on her, also has she been serviced and at what intervals?? Do you drive mainly in the city or freeway?

problem solved. it was carbon build up . i guess i went further than i had to with repairs as i have found some on here with same problem. i have ended up replacing oil pump, and oil pick up tube and running 2 seperate clean outs through motor .oil pressure fine now and through it all i have a new mellng oil pump on it and should not have this problem anymore cause i plan to put the sea foam in it right before every oil change to keep the carbon out of it but if anyone needs to change their oil pump let me know i can save you trouble .
