Default HO Alternator

I just finished up with my system, 2 12" type R's, ported box, 2 alpine mrp-m500 amps, kicker 700.5 amp, type R speakers, sony HU, 4awg wires under the hood and through out. Well I have a major voltage drop after the subs hit a constant low note, the kicker amps shuts down and the bass goes down from the lack off power. I am thinking of getting a Odyessy military grade AGM battery but I don'y know which or where to get a big 200amp alternator to power all this. Any suggestions.

I woudl check make sure ur fuses are big enough... your wiring is a bit small. what rms rating are the alpine amps? 500w. What do you have the 700.5 hooked up to? four sets of speakers?? and the two alpine amps running the subs? I'm going to be honest you shouldn't have huge voltage drop taht will make the amps shut off. ur running approx a 1200 w rms output setup. the 700.5 puts out about 50w into each channel at four ohms. I would go with bigger wiring. 1/0 gauge back to a distribution block and then 1/0 gauge from there to the seperate amplifiers.

a lot of things that are a bit strange with what you're doing that could be causing the problems other than just electrical system.. rams arn't slouches in that dept they are pretty stout.

well the kicker amp shuts off but the alpines don't have regulators so once the voltage drops so does the amps output, no shutting off. I have to say though I kind of messed up and I am running two fuses on my power wire. haha long story but I might ditch the second fuse and replace it with a cap or just get more power wire. I just don't know if the second fuse is the problem. But to me 4awg wire is hard enough to try and snake through the interior. I might go and buy this AGM battery so I hope that helps. Any other suggestions are welcomed.

We have a 135 amp alternator - ok but nothing to brag about either. When your stereo, or fan + lights, goes over that, you're running on battery juice. If that happens for more than a second at a time, you'll be better off with a higher output alternator.

For the stereo problem, I'd check the size and quality of the ground. 4ga is plenty for that setup but if the ground is bad, the rest is moot. If you're on your stock battery, it's 5+ years old anyway so a new one is good insurance too.

That reminds me - I should replace my battery before the end of summer. It's OEM too.

For that kind of stereo, you need a good capacitor to store the extra energy for the bass output. The alternator regulator can not vary voltage that fast resulting in dropouts.

you need at add an extra battery.. thats what i just got done.. it helped out but your still gonna get voltage drops when ur stopped. my system is pushing more watts than yours and i didnt have to get a ho alt. i got a kentic HC 800 it puts out 50 less amps than a yellow top.. but its like 2x smaller.. and it fits under the seat

kinda messy been workin alot owell :x but thats the amp and battery to my sub

Well with all amps combined i got a reading of around 2000watts rms with volume turned up and with a test song.
Jarrod I was thinking of doing that same thing with the AGM battery, I might get this one called Odyssey, almost the same as yours for under the front seat. But on that battery did you run the ground to the existing battery under the hood or run it to the body or chassis of the truck. I have a second fuse for my 4awg under the front seat that I can replace with the smaller battery.

As for capacitors, all I heard is that there useless as in once the bass hits one time it gets drained and takes twice as long to charge back up.

But I also heard that a second battery will make the Alt run twice as hard and will eventually wear that out. So I am still in a little pickle.

What rms is your amps putting out. I might post a couple pics pretty soon of my setup.

i havent heard of odyssey battery's i know that the kentic battery is made for systems and is a drycell battery so it wont leak out.. and the audio place recomended it because the yellow top wouldnt fit.. and im pretty sure its ran to the chassis of the truck.. i didnt install it myself. i have the hifonics 1600 watt going to my kicker L7 15 wired to 1 ohm and i got a hifonics 220x4 running to my highs so around 2400 watts or so.. but i dont have a seperate battery running to my 4 channel amp its just running off the battery under the hood.
