I don't think the hemi will match up w/ the tranny you have let alone the electronics.
The Hemi didn't appear until 2003 so a 5.9/360ci would be the cheapest and easiest choice I would think.

I put a 04' Hemi in my 02' Ram.. I Love it .. The 4.7 and 5.7 Hemi Transmissions have the same bolt pattern , so a Hemi would bolt to you're trannsmission.. 318-360 , motors won't bolt to you're trans..
You need a 03' to 06' Hemi and 04' complete wiring harness .. It will plug into the white plug under you're dash.. Look Up My thread " 2002 Ram get HemiDak-Quads Hemi"..
It will show you what to do.. I'll help you if you need it ...

Simply based on the fact that the 4.7 and Hemi share the same transmission, a Hemi swap would be a good bit easier than a 5.9 swap...

Is this all one sentence?

I wasn't sure bout the compatability but now I know. Thanx guys.

What's the difference mechanically / electrically between 04-06 Hemi's to the
07-08's besides availability?

03-05 hemi's are non-MDS and use PCI bus communications. In 2006 they changed to CAN bus communications and added MDS in the engine

I would look for a 2005 low mileage Motor and transmission .. You can get better tuning programs and chips for 05'~ with no MSD ..
You will have to cut off you're motor mount perches and weld them back in . That's not hard to do .. I don't know exactly how to do a 4x4 , mines 2x2 , but there are people here that have done that swap that can help.. I'd do it .. 4.7's Suck and I don't think it would cost any more to swap in a Hemi instead of a 4.7 , if you can find one reasonably priced..

Default 2002 ram 1500 4.7 to 5.9 conversion

Hi, I'm new to this site so if I violate any protocols, please bear with me. I have just bought a 2002 1500 with a blown 4.7 and would like to find out what is involved to convert to a 5.9. I have searched the site but couldn't find any recient, detailed info. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

jdanbris you don't want to convert to a 5.9. You'll want to convert to a 5.7 or another 4.7 since both have better MPGs than the 5.9

Negative sir, If you have a 4.7L Auto trans, then you'll want to swap to a 5.7L as they share the same transmissions.
