check engine light and rear defrost

check engine light and rear defrost
we have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 with 5.9 litre. the check engine light will not stay off. we have checked the codes, cleared them, and a day or so later the check engine light is back on like a bad nightmare. (the code that came up was for oxygen sensor and loose air filter, both of which we've had fixed and have reset the computer).
the previous owner had to replace the original rear window with defrost, and he just put in plain glass. the little light above the rear defrost button flashes, so the absence of the defroster is why.
my questions are:
1. can the absence of the rear defrost trigger the check engine light?
2. can the computer be told that no such rear defrost exists so stop looking for it?

I doubt that a lack of rear defroster would trigger a check engine light. Even if it did, it wouldn't throw up a O2 sensor and loose air filter code. It's probably possible to program the computer that it isn't there, but it would mean a trip to the dealer.
As for you check engine light, if I am not mistaken, there is more than one O2 sensor. Have you checked them all?

No a defroster won't throw a code..
