ive tried both..i mostly do it with OD off. you get longer gears..and you dont lose the low end tq to a shift... and i usually power brake to about 2 grand, and sometimes i dont..depends on my mood....some ppl say to drag in 4x4..but i have nvr had a problem hooking up if i warm my tires up(wrangler AT S 265s)
