2006 Mp3 CD changer in a 2003 Ram?
Hi, I just bought a new to me 2003 Ram 1500 with a 5.7L Hemi. One thing I would like to have in it is an MP3 player. Now, the question: Can I replace the original CD player with a 2006 CD/MP3 our of another Ram? Will I need anything else besides CD player (I think I would need the trim on the dash....). Any help will be greatly appreciated...Thanks.
2006? No, dashes are completely different. BUT, they make CD/MP3 player for our trucks, it's the RAH code, p/n 05161262AB. This a straight bolt in and works great. One 700 mb CD will hold about 175 or so (average size 128 bitrate) songs.
Awesome, looks like they're available everywhere for $400+, so I'll have to search around to find cheap used one...
Thanks for the info
Glad someone popped in with a part number for you.
Real quick though, even if you can get an '06 stereo in your '03, it still wouldn't work because of the new wiring. You either have to have pre '06 or aftermarket.

Or you could go with something like my Pioneer 6000UB for $250 from Crutchfield - it came with all of the connectors and the plastic, perfectly matched trim piece and mount. It has XM, bluetooth and high def radio capability (with the right adaptors) a USB port (which drives my iPod_ an auxilary input and CD player to play your MP3s. This is awesome value and sounds brilliant. You can even play from a memory stick. Free shipping too

If I don't find a good cheap factory radio I will go with an aftermarket radio. From my point of view the aftermarket radios stick out like a sore thumb on the dash, and the factory ones blend in. It's funny that you can actually buy a brand new DVD/CD/MP3/GPS 7" touch screen radio for less than the factory CD/MP3......

I know, ridiculous, isn't it? If I could find one that had alot of **** on it but didn't look like *** sitting in my dash, I would buy one. At least with the factory head unit, you don't have to buy the extra module from Crutchfield to make your steering wheel controls work. I bought 2 of those head units (new) from some guy in Canadia for about $200 each (one for the Ram, one for the Libby). If I see one, I'll let ya know.
Not true.
