aluminum driveshafts
i took my truck in to our usual local shop, the guy had 3 new dually CTDs standin in the lot with car carriers behind them, black, white, and silver. I damn near dropped a nut when I saw them lined up.
i got a quick glance at the driveshaft under one of them, no rust!! It didn't look like there wasn't rust cuz it was new, it looked aluminum, on a 6.7 CTD.
Now I got no problems with aluminum shafts on lesser engines, even on a hemi, but i'm wonderin what dodge is thinkin puttin one on a torque monster like that. thoughts?

ya they do that to shed weight...its still a very strong drive shaft. i was at a truck pull like a week ago and saw a Dmax twist one right in half...but he had a stock truck with a programmer tuned all the way up..
Kinda don't like that idea, I usually see at least a post a month across the half dozen truck forums I frequent where a 2wd Dodge owner has one grenade on him. Personally, I'm thankful mine has rust on it...
Idk, I was told in about '06 by my local Dodge service mgr. that ALL 4x2s were aluminum because of the length, it would be too heavy if it were steel. All 4x4's were steel because of the two shorter ones coming from the xfer case.
But I've seen 4x2 owners on forums swear theirs was steel and 4x4 owners gripe that theirs was aluminum, so I really don't have a clue...

i've got the longest wheelbase and it's steel....just in 2 sections w/ a carrier bearing.
if you have aluminum on 1/2 ton...i'd guess that you have the 4.7 or 3.7...but that's a guess.
if the new cummins has aluminum....it better be one thick SOB.
