Default '02-'07 & '08 4.7L 1500's - is there a difference?

I see a lot of mods listed as being for the '02-'07 models when it comes to the 4.7L Ram 1500. Is there a difference between those and the '08 model, in terms of the engine in them? I know my '08 is advertised with flex fuel, so I assume that might be the difference. I'm browsing around and trying to learn, but hate to end up buying stuff listed for the '02-'07 models and it not fit my new '08.

Thanks in advance, this could end up being a stupid question.

I just got an 08 Ram...I know one difference between the 02-07 and 08 4.7L is 75HP and about 70 FT-LBS TQ more and better fuel economy. Otherwise I too would like to know any further differences.

See, I don't know sh*t about the '02-'07, so what you just posted about the horsepower increase is news to me.

Yea i heard about all the new engines with increased power, but i also heard its to offset the added emissions restrictions.

I'd say since the engine has been upgraded (16 plugs vs. 8, etc.) I'd stay away from any internal engine mods, CAI, headers, etc. without consulting the manufacturer. The body is the same, so things like fender flares, lifts, cat backs, etc. should be ok...

I have an '08 4.7. I've read and asked alot of questions about the new 4.7. KARAMO182 and HammerZ71 is correct anot the 2 plugs per cylinder and the hp and torque improvements. I think the intake is improved and have read that it flows about 600cfm. The exhaust manifolds are supposed to flow better due to less restriction. I believe the combustion chamber has also been reshaped and is refered to as a "Semi-Hemi". One person described it (the combustion chamber) as being the same as the Hemi except on one side is more or less flat. It was describes as being shaped something like a flat tire...round but flat on one side. It is rated at 310hp/330fp torque in the Ram versus 235hp of the earlier versions of the 4.7. I'm not a mechanic or anything....these are just things I have read about my motor.

Thanks a ton for all the solid replies, that info. is just what I was looking for. I'm not looking to really mod much of anything, especially internals. I have pondered an intake, but if the stock unit flows that well, I'll just swap in a K&N filter and call it a day. Other than that, I'll just continue to read and pick up info. as I go.

Thanks again.

Personally I think the intake can still use a little help. It wouldn't take a lot to put the 310hp '08 4.7 into the horsepower neighborhood of the pre-08 Hemi which is 345hp. I would try to use something other than a K&N. I lived in Peoples Republic of Kalifornia for a while and spent a lot of time around Glamis and the Imperial dunes. I saw motors that had K&N filters suck sand straight through the filter unless they used 'outerwear' over it. Granted they probably hadn't been oiled correctly. Too little oil OR too much oil with a K&N and you can have a problem. Lots of people love 'em but not 'me.

Yeah, I'm sure it could definitely help out, just a matter of finding something. I'll be honest, I haven't really seen much in terms of performance offerings for the '08 4.7L, guess it's still early.
