Other than the fact you caught a salesman in a lie (imagine that), IMO you are better off without it. IMO, the better gas mileage is why they have different powertrain offerings. I mean, if your gonna put the MDS feature in an engine, why not in the 4.7, people want to save gas, go to a smaller engine with the feature. The way it is now, a 4.7 and Hemi with MDS get about the same mpg's, stupid.
If I was Mr. Dodge CEO, there would be a 1/2 ton with four engine options. The Hemi full blown 8 cyls. all the time, a smaller version of the CTD like a smaller lighter possibly non turbo version, the 4.7 which would actually have a fuel economy benifit over the Hemi be it an MDS type feature or something else, plus be able to use the flex fuels, and then maybe a hybrid.
And since I have my soap box out, I'd expand on the Power Wagon, offer it in a CTD as well and put in a PTO system, kinda like the old Jeeps had, to run PTO farm equipment, generators, etc. Now you'd really have a work horse!!!

When I was shopping around a chevy dealer had told me that they were planning on putting a smaller diesel in their 1500s, 300 hp worth. That was a while ago, might be scrapped now with fuel costs and pickup sales all but dead. Would be nice though, cuz dodge would ahve to follow suit and more of us could afford a cummins. even a smaller one, i'm over 95% sure that it would have to have a turbo on it.

They got one, it's a non-turbo, was slated for a 2010 debut, I'm not sure of it now with the diesel prices. Nowhere near the HP or torque of the CTD though. I think it's the diesel they are using in the Grand Cherokees. I know they have an agreement for Nissan to get it and use it in the new full size Nissan's that are replacing the Titan...

I think it is quite difficult to put a MDS feature in an OHC engine like the Ford V8 and 4.7L Dodge. Not enough room in the head for the solenoids and such.
GM has a similar function on it's smaller v8's.

Is it that easy to tune out and turn on when ya want? I thought it was near impossible.

I would imagine it is, which is why Diablo is going on being two years after it's original promised ship date and still no product...

I'll be getting one once they finally release them. It worked good on my 01 F150 that I had.

I like the idea, I dont like how it functions right now and personally when I go to buy a hemi im buying a hemi for a reason, I think dodge would be better off to make this an option.

Dont get me wrong I still love my truck, the OD, tow haul trick worked well today, as does manually shifting.
Im with you on the 8cyl all the time, but cant change that now. Re: other people, I have had several people tell me they love the sound of the exhaust, but not one has stopped me and said "it sounds good, but that when that damn MDS kicks in...".

For sound Ive gotten used to it and it doesnt bother me (but thats me)...or, I recommend upgrading your speaker package and adding an amp/sub. In the process of doing myself.

Hope it gets better for you...

Their handhelds for the hemi cars can turn the mds off...you have to reflash the pcm each time you want it on/off of course. This seems to be the most current thread in the diablosport forum for the U7137. http://diablosport.com/index.php?nam...ewtopic&t=9346
