automatic tranny
there are several factors involved. the heavy duty clutches are tough on some of us when we primarily drive in heavy city traffic; a lot of it hilly pulling work trailers. the new 6sp in haul/tow mode is great for me with the 6.7.
the last three dodges i've had were '03 3500 dully CTD auto, '04 2500 hemi, standard, '05 3500 dully 4x4 auto. i bought these new and kept them up to this spring. the hemi was fun with a standard, but a pain to drive. whereas the other two were a pleasure towing a 10,000 lb and 14,000 pull behind trailers. went back and forth cross country numerous times from NM to CA. If you travel I-10 on that route you know how heavy traffic can be particullary LA and Phonix two hours to go 30 miles I could care less about the 5 bucks of diesel I would have saved with a standard.
the new auto trans is far superior to the '05 and the 05 was superior to the '03.

i too drive a 5 speed and would never trade it out. for those of us who also like fast cars (to complement our badass trucks) it pains me every time i see another sports car coem out with a bullsh*t flappy paddle automatic. so waht if they can shift faster than a true manual, you just dont have anywhere near as much fun. as well with my truck i like to be able to tell it what gear i want when i want it, therefore making it a much better tow vehicle. there is a reason that all semi's are manuals

Hate to burst your bubble but a lot of new semi's are starting to have automatics....
But I'm with you...I'd rather have a Manual...my next truck will be a Ram 2500 with a 6 speed Manual...(in about 5 years if I'm lucky.)

It is getting harder and harder to find a manual in a truck. I really don't want anything else, and the next one will be a stick. I never feel like I am in as much control when driving an auto. Of course, I have driven them for year, on the high way and nasty traffic.
Looks like I will be getting a 2500/3500 to get the 6 speed.

When I was shopping for my truck, if the ram would have had a option manual, I would have never even gone to Toyota, Chevrolet dealerships. I would have gone straight to Dodge. I have always had Dodge products but I have to admit the new Tundra was tempting. Toyota would not come off of any money so I went back to the Ram. Chevrolet was too small.
