Oil Changes - Intervals?
Oil Changes - Intervals?
I normally change my gasoline engine oil between 3k and 4k miles. For the new Hemi I was going to change every 3k since the dealer has discounted oil changes.
Anyway, this morning with 2,505 miles the "Oil Change" message came on. At 2,505 miles???? Will this be "norm" or is this just the "break-in" oil change? No towing or hard driving either.

Many of the newer model vehicles throw an indicator light about 500 miles before the "recommended" oil change time. It's to get you to start thinking about making the appointment before your truck is actually at the mileage. This is the norm.
I believe that Dodge/Chrysler has established two "schedules" for oil changes. One for 3k, and the other for 6k. They recommend a 6k change for "standard driving conditions" and 3k change for "off-road or hard-driven" conditions, but if you look carefully, their standard of "hard-driven" is quite low, and may put your vehicle into the 3k range.
I change my oil every 3000 miles. Ultimately it's a personal choice (unless you really do heavy towing or off-roading).
