Cool Will the old girl handle this?

Hi there - I plan to put a snow plow on my 02 Ram 2500 4x4 with a Cummins next week. The particular plow i'm looking at weighs about 900 pds. First, this wont be too much weight for the front end will it? And second, she has 68k on the 4spd auto tranny, I know the dodges had tranny issues before (my 96 1500 auto ate 2nd gear) do I have to worry about this with this truck? And if I do, what can I do to help it out - the truck already has a cooler for the tranny. Thanks - Jason

Check to see if the manufacturer recommends adding a couple PSI to the front tires.

it doesnt matter what ruck you have or what you have in the truck plowing will tear up any vehicle. Although there is good money to make. i am considering putting a plow on my 04 1500 in a year or two but i dont know if the truck can handle it.

I am pretty sure that Dodge doesn't want a plow of any kind on their 1/2 tons. I have a couple friends that had to switch to GM's because theye wanted to plow.

My 2500 has plowed my 30+ driveway route since '02. I've got a Fisher MM2 HD 8' plow. The only thing I recomend is a leveling kit for the front end. It seems to keep the truck from pounding the bump stops when traveling with the plow up between driveways. Plowing is hard on the front end. I swapped to greaseable ball and u-joints @ 40k. The ball joints are still good @ 140k, but I use up a set of front u-joints every year. No tranny problems, but I've got a NVG4500 5 speed.

I wouldn't put a plow on a 1500. Even the owners manual says not to do it. I just don't think the truck is strong enough.
