electronic throttle issue
never liked throttle bywire, now i ahve another reason why.
get in the truck last night after it had been sitting for about a day, was raining a little bit.
Turn her on, CEL is on, and the ETC light is flashing.
Turn it off, turn it back on, engine light on, ETC just lit, not flashing. start driving. bucked a little bit just to start, then never again.
4 miles later while waiting at light, truck turns off.
Throw it in neutral, turn it back on. CEL on, no ETC. now either the throttle wasn't working right, or i was getting a little to anxious to get out of the way of traffic cuz i couldn't hardly get moving, damn oem tires must have spun for 10 seconds before i could finally get going.
drive 2 miles to autozone. parts line is 20 minutes, i'm frigin tired, didn't wait to have code checked.
Turn it on, CEL on, no ETC. drive ~10 miles home.
This morning, turn it on, no CEL, no ETC light. haven't checked codes yet to see if anything stored.
has anyone else had the ETC blip on them, or should i start worrying? I don't go to the dealer for anything, and I'm not too excited about maybe having to start now.

Have you cleaned the throttle body lately? Make sure it isn't sticking.
Also do the throttle reset procedure -
1) Insert ignition key and turn to "ON" (not start).
2) Wait for all idiot lights to go out. Check Engine Light may remain on.
3) Slowly depress the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor.
4) Slowly release the accelerator pedal until it's all the way back up.
5) Turn the ignition key to "OFF".
6) Start the engine.

P2174-LOW AIRFLOW/RESTRICTION DETECTED (INSTANT ACCUMULATION)
When Monitored: Ignition on, no MAP Sensor or TP Sensor DTC present.
Set Condition: PCM calculated MAP value is greater than actual MAP value plus an
offset value. One trip fault. Three good trips to turn off the MIL. ETC light will flash.
eeerrr, can someone translate for me please?
damn mo, that's expensive, but at least i can do it without giving it to the dealer if thats the prob
thanks john, will definitely try that. im hoping that description just means clean the throttle body.

truck doesn't show any symptoms of anything. I haven't done anything to it. MIL and ETC lights stay on when the key is turned to on, but go away when the engine is running. I'm kinda confused...anyone?
Reading the MIL description, it sounds like they're saying "there's less air in the engine than there should be." That could be buildup around the throttle body opening and would be most noticed at idle. It may have slipped under the threshold for MIL activation now but will probably return.
You can clean the throttle body easily on a Ram since it'll run with the intake hose disconnected (gotta love MAP). You don't have to do anything too crazy - a quick spray should fix the problems you're experiencing. Be sure to use Throttle Body Cleaner and not carb cleaner since the latter may harm protective coatings used on modern throttle bodies.

yea, thats what it sounds like to me too, but what does that have to do with the etc? maybe its sticking? maybe the Ethrottle is messin up so then the engine unexpectedly doesn't have air? I'll try to clean it tonight.

Something else caught my eye in your original explanation. You said it had been raining, then you get all these weird cel and etc warnings. You might want to check the PCM connection blocks for any corrosion too, as well as cleaning the throttle body. It doesn't seem to happen often, but occasionally it has been seen here on the forum. Make sure you disconnect the battery and turn on the headlights before you pull the connector blocks to ensure all electrical is totally dead. Then pull the connectors out and check the terminals on the PCM and the blocks for any sort of corrosion. Clean them real good then pack some silicone grease into the connector blocks before you reconnect them to the PCM.
cleaned the TB, calibrated the WTC, problems gone. thanks guys!
TB wasn't really dirty, but maybe it got stuck once and that threw the calibration off? Still sotring a code (light on before ignition), so i'll check out if anything changed.
and no animals in the intake, just potato chips...
